What you'll find: artisanal doughnuts for delivery or to be enjoyed on-site with a good coffee, along with other sweet treats. The store can be rented for private parties and cooking demonstrations are presented to groups. Their story: Josie Weitzenbauer, who worked previously at Sardine Café and Chez Boris, opened Léché Desserts in the fall of 2012.
What you'll find: country-style pies, a café which also serves sweets like marshmallows and meringues, and catering services for business meetings, parties and weddings. Their story: Rustique was launched in February 2013 by three fans of comforting, old-fashioned, grandmother-style desserts: Tamera Clark, Jacqueline Berman and Ryan Bloom.
What you'll find: a parlour and a shop displaying pastries, candies, croissants, cakes and house-made ice cream, to eat in or take away. There are also a pastry school and catering services for wedding receptions, corporate events or other occasions. Their story: French chef Christian Faure was designated a Meilleur Ouvrier de France (One of the Best Craftsmen in France) and has worked at the Royal Palace in Monaco and at prestigious hotels. Showered with awards, including World's Best Pastry Chef, he opened his own shop and pastry school in Montreal in August of 2013.
What you'll find: chocolate in every form: in pastries, ice cream or on crepes as well as a wide selection of hot chocolates and chocolate drinks with liqueur. Their story: A French native with professional diplomas as a chocolatier and crepe-maker, Juliette Brun opened her first store in Montreal in 2002. She now has six shops and also shares her passion in a television show on the Zeste channel.
What you'll find: known for its breads and croissants, this store and coffee shop offers a selection of pies, cakes and, of course, clafoutis. Their story: While there are now six shops in Montreal, the first was in Outremont, where pastry chef Nicolas Delourmel and baker Joseph Sabatier have produced their generous wares from simple, traditional recipes since 2008.
