When it comes to the dining scene, trendy Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie can hold its own with many of Montreal’s more established neighbourhoods. With the Jean-Talon market, Saint-Laurent Boulevard, Beaubien Street and Plaza St. Hubert, the neighbourhood has no shortage of happening areas, and here are some of the restaurants to discover there.
The Isle-de-Garde tavern offers beer, food and whiskey! Located on Beaubien Street, the restaurant’s diverse menu includes pork ribs, a burger aged 40 days, salmon tartare and grilled pork tongue. Isle-de-Garde also offers over 22 beers from Quebec microbreweries.
This nice restaurant located on rue Saint-Zotique offers primarily vegetarian cuisine, but carnivores have not been forgotten! There are always one or two meat options on the menu. Among the dishes offered are squash gratin, barbecued lamb, and pierogies. With its mismatched decor and small saint statues, Santa Barbara (our photo) is as beautiful as it is good.
Le Quai no 4 is a neighbourhood tavern with trendy decor that offers complete meals and a wide variety of Quebec beers. The menu includes some original dishes like reverse shepherd's pie and classic dishes like ribs, tartares and fish & chips.
Located just outside the beautiful Molson Park, this neighbourhood bistro offers French cuisine composed of fair trade and organic products. The great French classics such as steak, black pudding and steak tartare are all found on the menu. The atmosphere is warm and intimate.
Labarake is a tavern-style restaurant set in an old fire station. Nicknamed "the dining barracks" by the owners, Labarake offers urban cuisine. On the menu you'll find beef tartare, mushroom risotto, mussels and paella with seafood.
The flagship restaurant of Chef Martin Juneau, Pastaga offers original cuisine in a contemporary setting. On the menu: savoury dishes prepared using local ingredients like scallops from the îles-de-la-Madeleine, piglet breast, Marieville duck magret and more. Pastaga also offers a wine list with several natural wines.
Hoogan & Beaufort is the latest new restaurant to move to the Angus Shops. Located in an old train factory building, the restaurant offers a beautiful setting that's both industrial and warm. On the menu, there are several dishes comprised of vegetables, fresh pasta dishes and some fish, like cod served with clams and beets.
Opened in 2013 by Stefano Faita and Michael Forgione, Impasto is a cozy restaurant that offers savoury and generous Italian cuisine. On the menu, you'll find fresh pasta selections, porchetta, homemade sausage and homemade desserts such as tiramisu.
Chef Martin Juneau’s second restaurant recently opened its doors on Beaubien Street. Cul-Sec is a wine cellar and a canteen and offers privately imported wines and a short but appetizing menu. Among the suggested dishes are Norwegian trout, beef tartare and a Philly Steak sandwich.
Since its opening in August 2015, Chef Charles-Antoine Crête new restaurant has gotten people talking and is often full. Amidst its colourful decor you can enjoy original dishes such as baloney cannelloni or "the nothing potato"! Whatever you order, savour the food and take time to admire the decor; there are details worth noting.
Located at the corner of Dante Street and Saint-Dominique Street, Pizzeria Gema offers a selection of fine appetizers (starters) and pizzas. Owners Stefano Faita and Michael Forgione have seen the restaurant’s popularity grow by leaps and bounds since its opening in 2014. They offer classics such as Margherita pizzas, and less conventional pizzas such as the Vetri pizza, which as pistachios as a topping.
This small restaurant on Beaubien Street offers Tex-Mex, French and North American inspired cuisine. With its open kitchen, Gus's atmosphere is casual and lively. There’s an intriguing mix of dishes on offer, including flank steak, duck confit and venison tartare.
