My husband and I used to eat a lot of Indian food when we lived in Toronto. We moved recently to Barrie and were pleased with "Tara Indian Cuisine's" reviews. I was told it would take 45mins to 1hour delivery and a charge of $4.50 would be applied. No problem. Over 1hr and 30mins later our food arrived. And the order was wrong. We were so hungry we didn't even call to complain. While we were eating we also realized the chickpeas in the channa masala weren't fully cooked. Lastly, the amount of onion used was crazy. Trust me, I know how much onion is used in Indian food, but this was excessive. An entire onion per dish. It was gross. The worst part is I have a $50 gift certificate that I "won" on simcoe auctions and it can only be used in the store.
I am a regular at Tara, and for good reason, the food is amazing the staff are friendly and though the prices seem to jump every time we go there it is still reasonable. Just know in advance very slow service, but the food will arrive fresh and hot, worth the wait. Great restaurant would recommend to anyone!!

We haven't been to this restaurant in years, but I figure my review will still be worth something. We've been here twice. The first time we visited was on Valentine's Day for dinner. Our first impression was not too great. Along with three or four other couples, we were kept standing by the front door for well near one hour (if not more) while we stared and waited for other patrons to leave. The most annoying thing about the experience was that we had made reservations beforehand. My definition of making a reservation at a restaurant means that a table will be reserved and waiting for you at your requested time, so there will be a minimal or no wait time when you get there. Otherwise what's the point of making a reservation if you'll just be treated like any other walk-in. The place was crowded, warm, stuffy, but the food, when it finally came, was very good. It was because of the taste and quality of the food that we decided to return a second time (we're suckers for punishment!) a few months later (on a non-holiday) and this time were seated much sooner. Again, the food was delectable. However, I remember they charged around $5 for a couple of tiny samosas, where there's a much more casual and equally authentic Indian place in Markham where you can get gigantic and delicious samosas for only about 25 cents each. But, I guess that's what you pay for Indian fine dining. Overall, as others here have said, the food is excellent but the service is lacking and unapologetic.
