Sophie Joubarne has always been an artist at heart, but prior to opening UNIK Printshop in 2010, she planted trees for 14 years and worked as a team leader and supervisor. The experience solidified her natural leadership skills and inspired her years later to become her own boss in the screen printing business.
She discovered the art of screen printing during a student exchange program while she was studying for a BA in graphic design at the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM). She ended up at a school of fine arts in Marseille, France. "I was introduced to screen printing and I went crazy for it," says Sophie. "The passion comes from the ability to print on loads of materials, with loads of different inks."
Although Sophie had no way of knowing how successful she would become when she finally went into screen printing, she was certain of one thing: she was going to make a living doing what she loved best.
