My wife and I were regulars at Canyon Creek Scarborough and had booked an 8:30 reservation for New Years Eve.Waiting the 25 mins extra to be seated was okay as it was NYE. The service, drinks and appetizers were great until the main course was served. As soon as the server put the food down, I immediately questioned the appearance of our "Slow Cooked Prime Rib" as it was burnt and had a heavy chrcoal outer appearance. He maintained that they were cooked medium well and well done and there was no issue. Prime Rib is not supposed to be BBQ'd as this was. It should be upcooked in the oven. After ccomplaining to the waitress which I hardly ever do, she offered us another one but at this point our dinner was ruined and I decided to politely decline as we had plans for midnight. She said that a Manager would come and speak to us but one never did. They just applied a 10% discount and sent us on our way without showing much concern. This is unlike other experiences we have had at Canyon Creek Scarborugh and we were very disappointed and probably will never go back. Prime Rib dinners on NYE should have the most care piut into them and should never be upcooked on the grill to give a burnt steak appearance. NYE comes around once a year and Canyon Creek Scarborough has been our choice for 5 years now. That is not going to happen again.
OVERALL: Just listen to Frank Sinatra - Almost Like Being In Love. And you'll be humming it after you leave Canyon Creek. Or at least i was. FOOD: The only reason it's not the Best meal ever is because yes on occasion you may get a poor cut of meat or flavorless fish. And I have been to dinner and lunch here for a few years now. But the Service keeps this review very high. SERVICE: If you have a problem with your meal they will go above and beyond to satisfy you, don't be shy, speak up and let them know because they genuinely encourage it. If you are rude to them they'll be respectful to you and politely ask you to leave. If you are nice to them they'll become your best friend. And if you treat them like you do your best friends, they'll become family. I once had a sore throat the entire day and without me asking, the waiter actually brought me a spoon and some warm honey to coat my throat. Oh my goodness. Now that is service. ATMOSPHERE: Beautiful fireplace, amazing ceiling, perfect lighting, great music, very clean, very comfortable yet elegant. Take a date she or he will love it. PRICE: Truly a place that stays true to the saying, you get what you pay for. Expensive but worth it.
I ordered filet mignon and it was tougher than beef jerky. I wanted to send it back but because it was a friend's birthday party, I didn't want to spoil the mood. I don't think it was real filet mignon, probably just a sirloin cut into the shape of mignon. Will NEVER go back again and I hope they go bankrupt.
Terrible, terrible service! First we had to wait for a table even though we made a reservation weeks ago. Once we were seated, the service was terrible. Took forever for our drinks to arrive (water and ice tea). The server was not attentive at all, she disappeared for long periods of time. Never checked up on us during the meal. We had to literally hunt the server down every time we needed something (refills, bill, etc). The food was decent, nothing extraordinary. The ambiance was nice but seemed like that's what they spend all their money on. They should seriously consider spending more time and money on training their staff.
My husband & I have been here twice and loved it both times. He had the prime rib & loved it - especially the horseraddish sauce. Thier bacon wrapped scallops are to die for - they are served with a spicy sweet thai chili sauce which makes the dish. I ordered the simple fish that was served on a bed of wilted spinach sauted with chippolini onions (a few too many for my liking but I just pushed them to the side) and roasted veggies - AMAZING! Our server was very helpful and friendly and suggested the Clilean cabernet sauv which was delicous! I ordered the chese cake which was served to me under cooked, but I mentioned it to the waitress who was very understanding and brought the issue to her manager who removed the item from our bill. We will definately come agin and again and again!
Our group wanted to try the discovery menu at Canyon Creek at 430 Progress today on a Monday Night. We were first embarrassed by the staff at the restaurant for leading us to a table that was already reserved for another party, so although the 9 of us were already seated for more than 10 minutes, we were asked to stand up and wait for another table as this table was already reserved (the thing is we tried to make a reservation on the phone earlier, but was told no reservations allowed for parties over 6) For our inconvenience the manager said that she will give us appetizers. We were seated at the patio as it was available. We ordered off the discovery menu, and it was the worse food I ever had. There was absolutely no quality control, the size and the doneness was variable although we all ordered filet mignon medium rare. My medium rare steak was a medium/well done steak. The steak was dry and cold. I informed the waitress that my steak was overcooked, and she replied by saying 'did you cut though the middle yet?' . When I did, it was obviously that it was a bit overcooked. She took it back. The manager and her then came back out to challenge me and said that the steak is medium rare. The manager then asked where dissatisfied because of the color or temperature, and I said that it is overcooked. She replied that because of lighting that it looked overcooked. She also said that if I wanted pinker than what I really wanted was rare or blue. Because I didn’t want to make a huge scene, I just took the steak since she insisted that it was the lack of lighting from where I am sitting. It was a mistake as I could eat anything as the steak was too dry to the point that the texture tasted like cooked liver. The rice that accompanied it was bland. We had to ask for ketchup as the steak and rice was bland. We also had to chase for the appetizer that the manager had promised us earlier on for the inconvenience. For some reason the waitress looking after us took offense for the food, and did not serve us after I asked for the steak to be brought back. She did not refill our water, and took our plates away too early. My friend was still eating, and she took away the ketchup and peppercorn sauce (which we paid $1.5 for as the steak was just too blend and dry). I had to guard the unfinished appetizer to make sure that she didn't also take that away We had to wait a long time for the dessert to come. Quality control was negligible. The height of the cheesecake varied considerably. One of my friend's cheesecake was so flat (approx 1cm tall), whereas everyone else was approx 2.0cm tall To end all this, the waitress literally dropped the bill on our table and left without saying anything. As we had a party over 6, service charge was already included (or else we didn’t want to give that much tip at all as there was such bad service). Even as we left, although the waitress was there, she did not say thank you or good bye. Totally WILL NOT GO BACK!
