The beer selection is great but the food can be pretty awful. It amazes me that they also charge FULL PRICE at Lunch time for entrees. After bringing our food the server was not seen again until long after we were done with our meal.
st veronus still has wonderful tasty food. I especially love the stoemp. BUT they no longer have a lunch menu- which means having lunch here is now much more expensive than it used to be (ie. the stew used to be $11 for lunch, now its $18 off the generic menu). because of this- I likely will only come here for dinner now as Peterborough has lots of other reasonably priced lunch options.
What happened to this place? We were there for dinner on a Friday night with our friends and wanted some good food and service. The food was average and the service was poor. We waited a good 10min to order drinks, once we were seated. We ordered 3 appetizers, but only two came out on time. The server took his time to return and take the order for our mains. It seems like they did not have enough staff. The fastest service we received that night was when it was time for our bills. We may return in a year.....
We went for lunch and expected to be a while but not because it took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive. Menu is great. If you like beer, they have an extensive beer menu as well. Eveyone loved their food.
We'd heard great things about St. Veronus...but were sadly disappointed. It's very spacious and the wood details and booths are lovely. Location is awesome...but. The waitress was polite but not very knowledgeable about the food. The cheese croquettes we ordered were still frozen on the inside. When they replaced the order they had exploded. The scallops in my seafood pasta were scorched and I could only taste the char. The pasta was one big lump of overflavoured overcooked noodles. Beer was great, tenderloin was edible but the plate was a mess. We won't be back.
The food they have at st veronus is delicious and the service is pretty good but i do not enjoy the atmosphere. The selection of beer they have would be the best around. The sandwiches they make are amazing i would recommend trying one of those I will for sure be back
What is there to say about st veronus? It's the peterborough standby for a good dining experience. Most unique selection of draft beer in the city. Great belgian food you can't find anywhere else that's consistently good. Good atmosphere in an old bank building. Good service. Appropriately priced and a great location. Always clean and fresh. Love it.
The selection of beers is great. The food is very well prepared. I have trouble with the menu because I can't eat onions and many dishes on the menu are off limits to me personally. Although my choice was limited I enjoyed what I ate.
This is one of peterboroughs best resturants, Always good food and good service, They have a great beer menu and there food is always perfect. I normally eat off of the specials menu, My wife and I eat here once a month, The price is always right on. You should give it a chance.
Left impressed again and again. The last thing I would ever order from a restaraunt is a sandwich, until one was recommended to me at St.V's. The Prince Phillip as well as the Portobella are nothing less than perfect. With a side serving of Stoemp and salad all for under $14 you can't go wrong. For the same price you can get a heaping bowl of Mussels with a side of frites. One of my favourite restaraunts to visit. Great place to hang with friends and a very mature atmosphere. Definately will return.
St. V used to be much better. Lately, the menu has focused on seafood to the extent that there are now only two or three things on the menu that I can eat. The specials tend to be very overpriced (and if you don't ask, sometimes they don't tell you until the bill arrives). I wish they would bring back some of the items they had in the early days -- a savoury pie with Gouda and potatoes, beef croquettes, Monk's Breakfast. All were delicious and sadly missed.
The food is horrendously overpriced and just not very good. The pork was dry, the mushrooms slimy, and my beer was flat. It is a fantastic place to go with friends for a pint or a pitcher, but don't consider it a restaurant or a place to eat. For two, I ended up with a whopping 86$ bill for one appetizer, one entree, and two pints, none of which was satisfying. The servings are small and poorly prepared. The best part was the service - unbeatable.
St veronus never seems to dissapoint. Had fondue for starter with two very large glasses of draft something or other with a citrus flavour that was very tasty. The Fondue and apple chutney is a must have! The service was very good and knowledgeable about what beer complimented what meal and we were very happy with his suggestions. The Morolos chicken snadwich is the best sandwich I have ever eaten! I will never order anythign else here other than this sandwich as you can not find anything similar anywhere else. The atmosphere was perfect laid back and casual and perfect for a birthday dinner. Thanks.
The beer menu is fabulous! Unbeatable selection. Atmosphere is also great, very comfortable and unique. I think it used to be an old bank a long time ago. The food was great when they introduced their new menu, but has since gone downhill. They have some really great things on the menu, but I have found the food somewhat inconsistent over the past year. The mussels Lambeek was my favourite thing to eat EVER, seriously. But, I don't order them any longer because the last 3 times I have the mussels have been old (dried up, very chewy and fishy). It's such a shame! Also, it seems that the food on Sundays is never as good (ie/ fresh) as it is on other days of the week. I loved these mussels so much I kept hoping that I was coming on "bad days", and that's why they were no longer as tasty as they once were. Unfortunately, after 3 bad orders on separate occasions I gave up. Overall, the food is hit and miss, but the beer is fabulous. It's still worth going for the beer menu!
Had lunch here with friends a few years ago, found everything superb. Had Valentine's dinner tonight, even better than we remembered. Service excellent, beer selection incredible, loved the atmosphere (great background music). Food was over-the-top, fantastic! Will definitely be back with friends soon and highly recommend it to others.
First off. Beer selection was excellent, no outstanding. The atmosphere was great. The pate tasted like heaven (it was a unique southwestern creation). The pork tenderloin was cooked to perfection, moist and juicy. Our server was helpful , and seem to know everything about the menu. We all enjoyed his pairings of beer and food. It was delightful. I can only imagine the dedication to quality and consistency in the kitchen. Even the dishwashers must be connoisseurs. In fact, all our dishes were extremely clean. Myself and all of my friends are definitely coming back when we are in Peterborough next.
The server was helpfull and friendly as we enjoyed a relaxing dinner. All the food was excellent in appearance and taste. If you like seafood (scallops, shrimp, salmon) you will really like the seafood dinner main course salad. Two of us loved it (no we didn't share!) But the five of us did share the wonderful cheese/veg/bread and spread platter to start and the yummy choc. fondue for dessert. There was plenty of fruit and choc. cake to dip! The other three ordered different sandwich meals that include a salad etc. and comes at a very resonable price ($10). Again the reaction was very positive. Highly recommend this restaurant...in this case we did reserve ahead of time and asked for a window seat in the original bar area!!!!!
The herb and manchego cheese crusted veal was amazing, the roast chicken could have been a little better in heather's opinion. The crab and gruyere dip was good but the bread they gave us was stale. The beer selection is spectacular, the petrus went fabulously with my veal dish and the fruli was an amazing pairing with the chocolate truffle cake we had for dessert. The service was great, she poured the bottled beer right in front of us and the pour was excellent. Heather says that fruli is the only beer that she has liked tasting ever. We are hooked on this place and will be coming back for our 10th anniversary dinner next year. I almost forgot, I love the stoemp!
The selection of beer is incredible for Peterborough (or anywhere, really). Pay the money for the Champagne Beer, it's truly worth it! Our server was very knowledgeable and explained the "champagne-beer" process to us. Lambeek Mussels are always delicious as well as the appetizer platters. Anything seafood is delicious and do not forget to try something from the daily menu! Elk was delicious when I tried it and you never know what you will like! Never had a bad experience at this place!
I found the salmon to be nothing to write home about. It was decent. Didn't wow me.. didn't suck. The beer selection is great. The dessert was amazing.. i can't remember what it was called.. but it was chocolate something or other (wife ordered it) man was it good. Service was good. Attentive waitress. We were in a nice quiet spot. Seats were a little hard.
