Heard a lot about this place. Dropped by for lunch and it was comfortably busy. The temperature in the room was so cold that I left my coat on. I ordered the Yorkshire pudding dish and the pastry was not edible. Maybe it does well because of location, but I will not make the trek there again.
The place was packed for lunch. The previous night had been St. Patrick's Day and I gather they had pipers and even an Irish tenor. Needless to say it was packed then as well. But despite the large crowd the service was pleasant and quick, that is quick without being hurried. You have to ask yourself when you read the few poor reviews here if they are accurate or if they might be the fabrication of a jealous competitor - silverfish? Don't think so. The place is spotless. You also have to ask yourself if the place is indeed 'crawling with silverfish' why so many people are going to this restaurant? The answer is simply - great food at a fair price. Great food as in the burgers are made from scratch. Phad Thai - who has that in a pub? Phenomenal salads. Every dish, and we tried a lot of them, was tasty. The crowd ran the gamut from businessmen to families on March Break. From ties to jeans. Do yourself a favor. If you're ever in this part of the region drop in to The Judge & Jury - then write a fair review. Speaking of reviews, there's something wrong with this star review scheme. Five stars is 'best meal ever'. You would not expect to have a 'best meal ever' at a pub. Perhaps the ratings should be made to reflect the type of establishment. Had this said, 'best meal ever at a pub' I would have given The Judge five stars in each category.
Run of the mill, like so many other pubs in southern Ontario they all seem to look and feel the same. I visited the pub three times which I will always do before writing a review and found it to be ok, food, service & decor were all ok, just not great, as some of the regulars would have you believe on the previous reviews. As you approach the pub, which apparently was a bank at one time ( a modern bank that is ) the building has virtually no character, whilst it is not as bad as a strip plaza pub it doesn't appear very welcoming. As to the food, I sampled Fish & Chips, Steak Pie, & curry, all of which was mediocre. The food arrived in a timely manner by two different servers both of whom did their job fine with minimal effort as well as minimal personality. Overall the pub appears to be wallowing in a sea of mediocrity, if I was passing I would maybe pop in for a pint it just wouldn't be a session pub for me. Until next time. The Pub Critic
Love the Nacho's! Great place. Warm and inviting. We have been there for lunch and dinner and we are always pleased.
I agree, best pub in Burlington. Great food, Great service and great beers on tap. I have been in here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the menu items are delicious. Great variety I have come in here when it has been so busy we had to get take out because there were no seats left. Fish and Chips are the best I have ever tasted. I say my one complaint is the place is too small and on the busiest days they have to trun away customers at the door.
