Bon appétit! Vancouver's excellent French bistros
The leafy, cobblestoned setting of this Gastown bistro is perfectly suited to the air of Frenchness it exudes. Straight out of Montreal, the interior is all black and white tile, dark wood and chandeliers. A perfect date restaurant and also great for a crowd, start with escargots or an Alsatian tart before moving on to entrecote or moules frites. An excellent wine menu rounds out the meal. Oh, and be sure to ask for another basket of that perfect sliced baguette.

Gastown patios to take in Vancouver's historic ‘hood
This lovely and authentic French bistro on Abbott Street has a shaded patio amid the cobblestone that, again, evokes Parisian cafes and long, leisurely midday meals complete with a glass of something crisp and impeccable bistro fare. Moules or steak frites, salade Niçoise, even a humble Croque Monsieur all get an elevated treatment when served on this pleasing patio amid the street lamps and high-end boutiques.
