Some Other Solutions is a Crisis Prevention Centre in Fort McMurray that supports individuals of all ages and backgrounds when experiencing stress, emotional distress, loneliness, and suicidal thoughts. We help empower individuals with the tools and resources they need to better manage life's challenges through three programs:
1. Child and Youth Program:
Mentors: meet one-on-one with elementary and high school students who have been identified as needing extra support; facilitate a support group for children struggling with divorce or separation in their family (Heart of the Matter); and run an afterschool Sports Play Program;
Youth Engagement Facilitator runs a Students Assisting Students Program and a Community Helpers Program to train young people in mental health issues, leadership and helping skills.2. Information and Referral Program:
Provides the 24-hour Crisis Line where callers share their stories and find emotional support and resources in moments of crisis. 780-743-HELP;
Hosts the 211 service in RMWB. 211 is an informational database with information on government, health, and community resources across Alberta. 211 can be accessed by anyone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by phone and online: http://www.ab.211.ca/
3. Health and Wellness Program:
Provides short term crisis counselling and one-on-one grief and loss support;
Facilitates support groups including: a parent bereavement group and a survivor of suicide group;
Offers presentations and workshops in the community, workplaces, schools on various health and wellness topics: grief and loss, Mental Health First Aid, and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training.more...See more text
