My husband used to work downtown, and we would frequently eat here for dinner instead of trying to get out of the city at rush hour. Food is really good, some very unique dishes, and the atmosphere is modern and contemporary.
Downtown workers can meet their dates as soon as they clock out for the day: reserve a quiet table at Orchid Room to try unique twists on Asian favourites. The Orchid Room in Bankers Hall offers vegetarians curry, stir-fry and pad Thai that combines traditional Thai and Vietnamese flavours with French finishes. Their vermicelli bowl is a crowd favourite – it can be made vegetarian with tofu, a mixture of veggies and spices, and is served with veggie spring rolls.
A comfortable patio-style restaurant located on the second level of Bankers Hall, Orchid Room serves fusion dishes rooted in Vietnamese cuisine and featuring French and Thai influences. A shrimp salad roll with chicken dumplings sautéed in chili sauce, onions and peppers, makes a savoury start to this meal. Several second-course options include stir-fried beef tenderloin with vegetables and rice as well as caramelized salmon done up in jalapeno, garlic caramel sauce with coconut rice. For dessert, choose between crème brûlée and fresh fruit. Three courses, $35.
This attractively cozy spot on the second level of Bankers Hall serves Vietnamese cuisine with French and Thai influences. Start with mango-shrimp rolls or lemongrass chicken fingers as an appetizer and move on to unique entrees such as caramelized salmon, Tamarind prawns and spicy pad Thai. And the orchid-garnished plates are a beautiful touch.
