The snow is finally O-V-E-R. Okay, so Montreal is having a bit of a rainy spring. That doesn't mean you have to stay home and grumble about it. Here are some suggestions for activities to do in May, the month where we "do what we please.”  [image credit: Joanie Breault]

10 Things to do in Montreal this May

1. Eat croissants

Nearly a hundred establishments celebrate croissants on Saturday, May 6th. Simply stop by and you'll be entitled to this wonderful, flaky pastry for the small sum of $1.

2. Celebrate Mom

Our mothers, we love them, we spoil them. Whether it's your mother, your sister or a friend, start the day of May 14 with a little brunch and a mimosa. Why not give her some quality chocolates, or try one of the new restaurants in town together? There's so much to do! Just use your imagination.

3. Play the tourist

How well do you know your own city? When we travel, there's no hesitation to walk around the entire day discovering places unknown to us. Why not do the same here? A long walk along the Lachine Canal trail, for example, is a sure hit.

4. Visit a museum

Enjoy Montreal's Museum Day on Sunday, May 28, when admission will be free. This year they're adding something special for Montreal's 375th birthday. You'll be able to participate in the Museum Rally! And just like every year, a shuttle service will take you from one museum to another. Make sure you take advantage!

5. Travel without leaving Montreal

Montreal is one of the greatest restaurant destinations in the world. It's truly hard NOT find something to your liking. No need to fly to Paris! Simply choose a culinary destination and Montreal restaurateurs will take care of the rest.

Take part in the dancing at the 15th annual Piknic Électronik, each Sunday from May 21 to September 24, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Held at Parc Jean-Drapeau, 10 minutes from downtown Montreal, this is the premier family event for all electronic music lovers!

7. May is comic book month!

Did you know May is comic book month? And bookstores throughout Montreal are literally offering a ton of activities all month long? That includes: introduction to manga drawing, creative workshops, quiz challenges and meetings with authors. You can also visit Baldwin Park, Molson Park or Petite Italie Park to see giant billboards of the Rues de Montréal project, which are urban stories told in comic strips. What’s more, from May 26 to May 28 if you head to Parc La Fontaine you’ll find the 6th annual Montreal Comic Arts Festival.

9. Finish your spring cleaning

Although not overly exciting, why not take advantage of spring cleaning to rid yourself of items and clothes you no longer need. Places such as Renaissance, Chaînon or Maison du ¨Père will gladly accept them to help others. And while you're doing the housecleaning, think of the environment and use eco-friendly products!

10. Volunteer work

Giving a hand to those in need is good for the heart and mind. Why not pull together, if only a few hours each month? Go to the Montreal Volunteer Bureau's website and see what you can do to help change someone's life.
