The Toucan and Kirkpatrick's is one Kingston's best Irish-British Pubs. This is, "the local," for many 21-40+ Kingstonians. The Great selection of beers and liquor, live music at least one day a week, daily specials and sunday breakfast special, make this establishment a favorite. The staff is friendly, and the food is reasonably priced and is usually quite good. However, this place is a Pub first, then a Restaurant. It is solid UK+US "Pub Grub." Wings, Nachos, Meat Pies, Bangers and Mash Fish n' Chips are reliably awesome. The review below is not an accurate depiction of the place, however, it may well take 45mins on a Sunday morning or afternoon to get food quickly due to the $3.50 breakfast special and the hangover destructing properties inherent to the aura of the toucan, which draw many over-zealous drinkers. First time there recently with my boyfriend. Had a $10 gift card that we received in the mail from them. You save $10 if you spend $30 and it was good on weekends. We walked in and the place was very busy. But we asked for a booth and got one right away. The waitress was very nice and took good care of us. The food arrived within minutes. The food was amazing! We were staying in Kingston at the Holiday Inn and decided to use the in hotel restaurant. It was a pleasant experience and we were seated beside a window, so we got to see the lake. It started to get fairly busy, but wasn't loud at all. There was a menu, but we both decided to try the buffet. The food was decent with a lot to choose from - I may have had more than I needed to. The wine selection was standard, nothing spectacular. Our server (I forget her name) was quite attentive and very engaging. Will definately try again if we decide to visit Kingston. Read more

Breakfast dining at John's transports you well back into the last century when folks had significantly different service and culinary expectations. Don't miss the experience. As I entered John shouted a hearty "Sit anywhere and I'll be with you in a minute." greeting from the open kitchen in the rear of his restaurant. So I sat at the chrome-trimmed counter and the few nearby customers nodded their welcomes to me. John promptly brought the menu and my coffee. "If you want a refill, help yourself.", he said pointing to the coffee brewer on the back bar. I like this. It's like being transported back into Mayberry, West Virginia. Only Sheriff Andy and Deputy Barney haven't arrived for their morning coffees yet. My scrambled eggs were perfectly done, light and fluffy with just the right amount of moistness. The accompanying sausages were lightly grilled. Just browned, not deep fried that renders the casing nearly inedible as most others places seem to do in the name of culinary expediency these days. A customer from further down the counter strikes up a conversation with me and then takes out his wallet to show me the picture of his first car, a 1954 Ford. What do you have in your wallet? John is 85 and in apparent good health. But go to this little glimpse of the past and revel in the experience. It may not be available to you much longer. If it's not too busy, ask and John will share some details of his lifelong career of serving others carefully, charmingly, honestly and completely to the very best of his ability. How many other restaurants can do that? John's prices are embarrassingly low while the experience is rich beyond all expectations. I didn't want to leave. Read more

This place was bustling on the beautiful sunny day we headed over, and I now know why. Everything about this place was great! The server was smiley and took great care to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The food was fresh and tasty, and sitting outside in the fresh air with the lovely park and lake view was unbeatable. The french fries are so good, they don't need ketchup! If you pass by, make sure you take the time to stop here. It's well worth a detour, too, to be truthful. Read more

Can't say enough about this place. My wife and I discovered E&A's 2 years ago and go back at least once a month. I read some negative comments on this page and frankly, I think that these were written by E&A's competition because for the most part the comments were complete rubbish. We have never had a bad experience there, and the food and service has been cosistently top notch. They have the best seafood platter we have ever enjoyed . Their meals although pricey are filling and delicious. It can be cold if you sit in the front in the winter though. If you sit at the chef's table you can watch your meal being prepared. Someone commented that the steaks are pre-cooked and warmed up?? I have watched my raw steak cooked to perfection in frontt of my own eyes so I don't know were that comment came from. We highly recommend E&A's and as a matter of fact, we are going there tonight again! P.S. They make the best Ceaser I have ever had too. Read more
