Interesting and varied new menu items highlight a new season in this well-established eatery. The three-course Friday night special I had was truly wonderful, exciting, flavourful food. A mesclum mix was restrained by slices of cucumber, sliced lengthwise and curved to form a holder for the leaves, the whole drizzled with a piquant apple-based vinagrette. The pork tenderloin entree was three large pieces stuffed with a savoury dressing that was so tasty and plentiful that while I finished the pork, I took the rest of the stuffing home. Dessert was a chocolate/caramel custard in a crunchy pastry shell, topped with fresh strawberries and blackberries. Portion size gave good value for the price which was reasonable for the quality. Presentation throughout was as artistic as any classy place in Toronto but the outstanding things about the meal, to my mind, were the number of homemade items (dressing, stuffing, pudding, pastry) and the commitment to flavour everywhere. As a Nova Scotianer, and someone who went to chef school, I have to say that Duffy's makes the best (haddock) fish and chips in the area if you don't feel like traveling to Sauble Beach. Dropped in for lunch this week and was very pleasantly surprised to find this calibre of Japanese food in Peterborough. Excellent food. Very authentic. So much so it helps to be familiar with Japanese food before ordering (staff speak very little English). Fixed price for as much as you want on the menu. However a note on menu says you will be charged for what you don't eat. I thought that was an inspired way to prevent the waste usually associated with all you can eat restaurants. A little pricy but you certainly get your money's worth. Looking forward to a return visit for dinner. Read more
