Interesting and varied new menu items highlight a new season in this well-established eatery. The three-course Friday night special I had was truly wonderful, exciting, flavourful food. A mesclum mix was restrained by slices of cucumber, sliced lengthwise and curved to form a holder for the leaves, the whole drizzled with a piquant apple-based vinagrette. The pork tenderloin entree was three large pieces stuffed with a savoury dressing that was so tasty and plentiful that while I finished the pork, I took the rest of the stuffing home. Dessert was a chocolate/caramel custard in a crunchy pastry shell, topped with fresh strawberries and blackberries. Portion size gave good value for the price which was reasonable for the quality. Presentation throughout was as artistic as any classy place in Toronto but the outstanding things about the meal, to my mind, were the number of homemade items (dressing, stuffing, pudding, pastry) and the commitment to flavour everywhere. The Best Western Governor's Inn says classy from the moment you pull in the driveway and the lobby and professional staff continues this feeling. From a beautiful lobby to a restaurant/lounge that has the rich, comfortable feel of fine leather (although for the record there was no leather). Our server was attentive, polite and quite pleasant and although it was obvious that she was pushing the buffet there was no problems when I ordered off of the menu. This place gets a perfect 10 when it comes to atmosphere.
I ordered the Governor's Chicken Schnitzel with mashed potatoes and the garden mix. The chicken schnitzel was prepared quite to my liking, cooked to perfection, moist on the inside and the breading was wonderfully crunchy and seasoned perfectly. The mashed potatoes were quite good, fluffy and smooth, and clearly not instant (a pet-peeve of mine is instant potatoes). The garden mix consisted of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green and red pepper slices and was steamed to perfection. I rate this meal a 9 out of 10, nearly flawless.
Overall this restaurant gets 9.5 out of 10 and will say that I will defiantly be eating there again.Read more
We celebrated our 39th anniversary at this marvelous location.
We started with champagne cocktails. A bread basket with French and Pumpkin bread slices with butter and a red pepper spread arrived at the table. Very enjoyable texture and taste.
A little while later we had the soup of the day - a lobster and seafood blend. We found it a little strong on the seafood taste for a bisque and a little cooler than expected. During this course a crisp piece of baguette covered with a dollop of pumpkin mousse was presented - a delightful taste experience.
Did I mention this was also Thanksgiving Weekend.
Prior to the arrival of the main course, we were presented with a red wine ice (sort of a sorbet) which was delightful treat to cleanse the palate!
For entrees, my wife had the fish of the day - a pan seared trout with rice and vegetable blend. The trout was cooked to perfection and tasted divine, the rice was buttery and also cooked to perfection as were the vegetables. I selected the pan seared scallops and lobster. The scallops were succulent, sweet and melt in your mouth tender. The lobster was a shelled claw also sweet and tender. We had a bottle of VQA Pinot Gris from the Niagara Region. It beautifully complimented our main course. Both meals were plated in true gourmet fashion.
We shared the Triple Chocolate dessert which wasn't quite as 'chocolatee' as we would have liked but very smooth and enjoyable.
The tea we ordered following our dinners was properly prepared in tea pots with boiled water.
The wait Staff was attentive, polite, courteous but not intrusive. It appeared as though the staff collaborated with one another in a seamless fashion. It was a such pleasant experience interacting with them. They could not have been more professional or effective in their service.
Of course the Inn is an esthetically delightful structure. The Dinning Room is multi-levelled and nicely arranged in an "L" shape. Tables are carefully spread out so you don't feel that you are intruding on other patrons dinning. We had a 6:30 seating and there were several tables already occupied; by the time we completed our dinning ( nearly three hours later) the room was full.
We have been dinning at some of the nicest restaurants in the Toronto/Golden Horseshoe Region for decades. This trip to the Millcroft Inn and Spa was one of the best dinning experience we've had - period!Read more

We've been to many 5 star restaurants in downtown Toronto and we would take the Log Cabin over any of them. The chef is a master of Soups and presentation. The specials were varied and tasted exceptionally good . The unique atmosphere of the restaurant is extremely comfortable with classy decor that suits the environment. I highly recommend the place, its worth the trip. Mike & BevRead more
