Taking care of your personal wellness means caring for your mental, physical and emotional well-being. Here are some local businesses that will help you prioritize your personal well-being and get you feeling healthier all-around.
Described as ‘the perfect art of doing nothing,’ floatation therapy allows you to float in a warm salt-water tank – saltier, in fact, than the Dead Sea – for about 90 minutes. You float alone in a float pod in a private room, where you’ll be able to detach from the busy outside world for a period of time and sleep, relax and rejuvenate.
This yoga studio is clean, the staff are welcoming and the instructors are knowledgeable. Inside, there are two yoga studios, a waiting area with couches and hot tea, a small shopping section with yoga mats, towels and clothing and spa-like change-rooms. The change-rooms are supplied with shampoo, conditioner and body wash, small face cloths and even a tub of body lotion. Plus, there’s nothing quite like hot flow yoga in the middle of an Edmonton winter!
City Centre Health is centrally-located in downtown Edmonton. The clinic is clean, modern and open-concept, and Dr. Niz provides effective chiropractic programs that will help you recover from an injury, decrease pain and improve your over all well-being and posture. The clinic offers unique treatments that are not otherwise available in the area, such as the the K-Laser CUBE to help speed up muscle, tendon, joint and ligament recovery and VAX D-Decompression therapy, which helps with disc issues that might otherwise require surgery, as well as neuropathy laser treatment for those suffering from chronic burning and tingling in their feet.
Mindfulness, or understanding how to regulate your emotions, be resilient, quiet your mind and be attentive and focused, isn’t something many of us learn throughout our education. The Mindfulness Institute, run by Dr. Catherine Phillips and Dr. Priscilla Koop, teaches mindfulness-based stress reduction, mindfulness for health care professionals and drop-in classes for adults interested in mindfulness. While I haven’t attended any of their sessions, I’m excited that mindfulness training is available in Edmonton and I’m looking forward to the release of the 2016 dates.
