With its beautiful houses and tree-lined streets, the Ahuntsic neighbourhood is second to none in Montreal. Diverse and dynamic, its main artery, Fleury Street, has become a veritable shopping destination in what feels like a charming little village. Here are some excellent Ahuntsic places to visit when you stop by.
Considered to be one of the best pâtisseries (pastry shops) in Montreal, Mamie Clafoutis chose Fleury Street for her latest location. The white locale with vintage accents is located in the eastern portion of the artery. Visit Mamie Clafoutis to try one of their delicious Viennese pastries or to buy one of the bread selections made on site. You can eat in or take it to go.
Sweet Isabelle is the brainchild of Isabelle Quinn, who has a passion for cupcakes and cookies. Her shop offers sweets concocted on site and cookie decorating workshops for kids and adults. You can place a special order or choose from her collection of cookies and cupcakes, which are baked fresh daily.
La bête à pain is located at 114 Fleury Street West, a few addresses down from its big brother Restaurant Le St-Urbain. This caterer and bakery offers take-home dishes whose quality is comparable to those of St-Urbain.
This creative butcher shop offers local and deli meats of the French and North American variety (sausages, salami, bacon, pâtés, blood puddings, potted meats). This gourmet destination focuses on local products and ethical meats. In addition to their meat counter and deli counter, Ça Va Barder offers a lunch counter for takeout.
Specializing in beer, La Consigne sources its collection from around 30 Quebec microbreweries. The niche grocery store also offers hot sauces and Quebec ciders. La Consigne regularly displays the menu of the neighbouring restaurant, Le Chien Rose, a "bring your own wine" (or beer!) restaurant, and offers beer and food pairings.
The fruit and vegetable shop and delicatessen Citron que c’est bon! offers fresh, quality ingredients, local products, and some imported products. The new store established on Fleury Street since February 2015 already has three other locations (on Masson Street, in Longueuil and in Mascouche).
