Berri-UQAM is the busiest station of the entire metro network, with some 13 million journeys recorded in 2014. It serves the popular Latin Quarter and St-Denis, de Maisonneuve and Ontario East streets. In short, this station is something of a central point of the city. So here are a few good places for those looking for a table within 10 minutes' walk from the metro station.[Image credit: SDC du Quartier Latin]
This restaurant has just been awarded four toques by the Gault & Millau guide, with Antonin Mousseau-Rivard also being given the title of tomorrow’s top chef. In short, it goes without saying that besides being beautiful (each dish is a work of art in itself), Chef Mousseau’s cooking is simply divine. Treat yourself to a good gourmet meal in this small restaurant (with just 34 seats): it’s worth it!
It’s no coincidence that the burgers at Uniburger are among the most Instagrammed meals in Montreal, according to Narcity: because they are beautiful, tasty and totally juicy! They may not be revolutionary, but these burgers are addictive and they also took the Jury Prize at the 2013 and 2015 BurgerWeek.
This Haitian restaurant has been open just a few months now and is already pulling in the crowds. It has to be said: you don’t exactly get Caribbean cuisine on every street corner in Montréal. Featuring the famous weighed bananas, fritters, griot, goat with vegetables, and fried fish, all accompanied of course with a “ti ponch”. And the atmosphere is always great!
Every time you pass Cinko, you’ll see the famous queue! So what’s going on in this restaurant? It’s simple: the entire menu is offered at a special price of $5! And no, we’re not talking about cheap food or a tapas format. Here, with two plates (3 for big appetites), you’re good for the evening. In short, it’s cheaper (and much, much better) than a McDonald’s! There’s also the cool Warhol-inspired decor and its atmosphere, which is fresh and dynamic. In short, we like! But be patient, because they don’t take reservations.
Good BYOB restaurants are rare in the area, but I can recommend this one in particular: O’Thym. This is a French restaurant (gourmet bistro-style), featuring local products, where the menu changes with the seasons. We love the attentive service and reworked classics (including the tartare).
Okay, so it’s a classic, but for chocolate lovers (like me!), it’s also a must. Contrary to what one may think, they don’t just do chocolate-based things, so if you want to have a clear conscience, you can order a buckwheat ham/cheese pancake before falling into your decadent brownie, accompanied by a hot chocolate... Mmmm!
What could be friendlier than tapas? Here, the chefs take inspiration from around the world to create a menu that will send you on a journey... from the very first mouthful. There are even private rooms for groups of 15 to 100 people!
This “secret” pub (well hidden away in an alley) is renowned for its huge terrace, or should I say its “interior garden”. Obviously, you don’t sit down here just to eat, but you can accompany your beer with pizza, poutine, cheese sticks, or chicken fingers, fish n' chips and Bernese sausages.
