Although it can't technically be called cozy anymore, what was once a small bagel shop has been transformed into a sprawling café, swallowing up neighbouring storefronts as it has expanded to accommodate its growing clientele. While the decor is reminiscent of a 1980s airport lounge, the food is amazing. In addition to fantastic bagels and coffees, the menu includes full breakfasts, pastries and delicious homemade Indian and Mexican meals. Bagels on Greene is worth the stop, and the steady stream of customers through its doors agrees.
Half deli and half café, La Foumagerie has an extensive and creative sandwich menu, as well as excellent salads, soups and coffees. The food is fresh and the service is friendly. The menu offerings are inspired by the wonderful ingredients on the deli side, and the place is hopping from the moment the doors open until the moment they close. You can sit inside, or enjoy people-watching from the small terrace.
Chez Nick is a Westmount institution. More diner than café, Nick's is nonetheless a fantastic place to curl up with a cup of coffee and a newspaper or to catch up with friends. The atmosphere is friendly and boisterous, and the food is fantastic. Try the generous bagel plate with lox and cream cheese, or order a hearty cup of coffee with a slice of homemade apple pie.
Right on the border of Westmount and N.D.G., CHICHA is an Asian-inspired café that offers delicious appetizers, soups, noodles and rice dishes. The honey toasts and the matcha millefeuille are amazing, and you could spend days sampling the huge selection of unusual teas on the menu.
