It’s easy to be slightly obsessed with candles – they smell good, look pretty, give off a nice glow and come in handy during a power outage. Whether you’re just starting to build your collection or you’re simply running low on tea light candles, these shops offer some of the most beautifully packaged and best-smelling candles around.
You might not think to look at a beauty and makeup store for candles, but Lux stocks some of the prettiest candles you’ll ever see. They carry Voluspa candles (worth buying for the beautiful containers alone) in a variety of sizes, including the holiday mini candles in travel tins. You’ll also find Ted Baker candles, in elegant white holders. If you’re looking for something unique, they also sell Gilded Muse faceted jar candles and Mercury Box glass candles.
This cute shop sells an abundance of equally cute candles, including vegan ones from the American brand, Let’s Put A Bird On It. The flavours range from whimsical (Mermaid, Moonshine) to just plain delicious (Woodland Campfire, Coconut and Vanilla), plus some of them come with unicorns in gold or rose gold on top of the lid! They carry hip Damselfly Candles, with fun sayings on them, including “She’s mad but she’s magic” and “I love you more than all the stars.” You’ll also find Lafco candles and pretty tea light holders here.
Laurel’s On Whyte sells a plethora of trinkets and treasures, in addition to flowers. It’s a great space to go treasure hunting for unique, cute items, including candles and candle holders. They carry Casa by Pure Living candles, made from all natural soy wax, in yummy-smelling flavours like Bourbon vanilla and white tea or blue lotus and Sicilian orange.
I can’t walk into Anthropologie without smelling at least one candle – the Capri Blue Jar candles, which come in such amazing scents that it takes all of my willpower not to buy them all up at once. But, there’s plenty of other great candles here too, in all shapes and sizes, including Katz’s Delicatessen, Volupsa, Chicklit, Barr-Co Apothecary Jar, Printemps, Herb Garden, Tisane votives, Take Note candles, Spring’s Eden, Boulangerie Jar and Camp Wandawega candle gift sets. They’re all (almost) too pretty to burn.
This delightful offshoot of its sister store, The Bamboo Ballroom, carries lots of fun home décor items, including gorgeous candles. You’ll find beautiful tins filled with sweet, spicy and savoury smelling waxes on the shelves, hidden amongst essential oils, jewellery, handmade catnip toys, candlestick holders and BroBrick soaps for men.
If you’re looking for vegan candles, this is a great place to check out. This eco-chic store, located in the High Street shopping area, carries Simplicity tea light candles, which are made with the company’s own special mixture of soybean and all natural vegetable wax. These biodegradable candles are free of dyes, pesticides, herbicides and genetically modified material. The store also stocks Pheylonian beeswax votives and several kinds of soy candles, including Mother Earth Essentials candles and Pacifica candles in Hawaiian ruby guava, Mediterranean fig and Malibu lemon blossom.
