And it's a sixth time in a row for the MTLàTABLE festival, playing matchmaker between foodies and Montreal’s fine food establishments. From November 2 to 16, choose from $21, $31 or $41 multi-course meals to start your culinary journey right here in Montreal. Here’s what’s on the menu at some of the restaurants taking part. Please note that they may be modified without notice. [image credit: Lavigne/Ariane Thibeau]
You have to go all the way south of the city to find the Soeurs Grises, but they're worth it! First course: smoked duck breast carpaccio, chickpea and beetroot hummus or smoked pepper cream, with mini grilled-cheese sandwiches. Followed by a maple-smoked salmon steak, a waffle au gratin with duck leg confit or white pudding with sweetbreads. Topped off with a chocolate and jam Beeramisu, a pouding chômeur with maple syrup or dates stuffed with goat cheese, cranberries and walnuts. Like being at home, but different.- 21$
Here, we drink well and we eat well. As a starter, you can opt for a flaky wild mushroom pastry or smoked sausage with apples and caramelised onions. We then move on to a smoked ham, spinach and leek gratin, a buffalo burger with rhubarb chutney, honey-roasted salmon and a ratatouille. And if you still have room: there's a pouding chômeur or choco-stout cake.- 21$
Welcome to African cuisine, reinvented. First up: mezze with eggplant or chickpeas and lemon. Then it's a choice between the olive chicken with lemon confit, date beef with plums, apricots and figs or the platter of local (to Quebec) vegetables, with cabbage, carrots, beans, potatoes, zucchini, chickpeas and couscous. Before you go, don't forget to try the fruit cake or almond dates. - $21
Tapas is happiness. Find yours here with a first course of fried almars, a tilapia ceviche with coconut milk or dill-marinated salmon. After that you'll have the choice between cod acras, aubergine pizza with grilled vegetables or bacon dates (YES PLEASE!) stuffed with nuts and chorizo. Then, just as you're about to head for the door, your expanding belly is offered a flaky mushroom pastry, garlic sautéed shrimp or grilled chorizo with caramelised onions. Who needs sleep anyway. - 31$
Have a seat, this one could be long. And filling. And happiness-inducing. Here we go then: pâté en croûte, liver mousse, etc. or warm squash salad or apple and smoked bacon pea soup with pork jowels. Then, as if that weren't enough: Lac-Saint-Jean tourtière (venison, pork, blueberries), pan-fried char or pigs foot and boar spruce tip ragout. If your heart's still beating at this point, finish it off with an apple crumble or deconstructed pumpkin pie, with a flavoured meringue flambée.- 31$
Montreal is multinational. We say hello with a starter of salad served with miso-honey vinaigrette or a chicken lettuce wrap. Then, bam! a Quebec pork loin with Asian Choy Sum vegetables and a soy and maple syrup or Japanese poutine reduction. Ok, let's get back into it slowly, with A JAPANESE POUTINE (grilled chicken, Japanese curry, cheese curds, crisp matchstick potatoes). After coming back to Earth, try the white chocolate panna cotta or black sesame seed cake. - 31$
This St-Henri establishment puts fruits front and centre on their MTLàTABLE menu. Begin your meal with a Jerusalem artichoke and blue crab soup or roasted eggplant served with pine nuts. Continue with a choice of grilled mackerel with pumpkin and pears or roasted guinea fowl confit with rutabaga, beans and blueberries. To finish it off, choose between profiteroles served with strawberries, blueberries and chocolate sauce or the maple aspic with creme fraiche and apples. - 31$
Your head and stomach will be in Accordance. First course: Haidacore tuna with pepper mayo, fried tofu with shiitake, cranberries and sake or veal tongue. Then you have a choice between the duck breast, smoked cavatelli or farmed char with sea urchin from Rimouski. As if you needed a third course, remain seated for the Neige ice cream cider baba, or the chocolate mousse with a sea buckthorn and taffy trifle. - 41$
A wonderful mix of flavours awaits you. First course: Quebec farmhouse terrine with pickled vegetables, or a grilled shrimp and corn salad. Second up: house bouillabaisse (shrimp, mussels, cod, octopus), or a Lake Brome duck à l'orange, with apples, shallots and Brussels sprouts. For dessert: millefeuille or profiteroles. - 41$
Place your right hand inside your waistcoat and start out by sampling the seasonal salad with almonds, homemade game terrine, with caramelised onions or flavoured mushroom ravioli. Ditch the mobile phone and give in to the duck breast with maple jus, the fish and seafood linguini or duo of lamb loin and shank with sweet garlic. Talking of sweetness, for dessert: maple and blueberry cheesecake, key lime pie or chocolate mousse. - 41$
Chose does 'les choses' with finesse, with a smoked and pickled herring steak or venison heart tartare to start, followed by a pork loin, confit leg of rabbit with pistachios, apricots, cipollini, wild rice, and tarragon, and a crème brûlée with cardamom baked in an apple, or a pumpkin cream, spice and chocolate pot to... how do we put it politely... finish you off? - 41$
