Curry is the spice of life at Halifax's Indian restaurants

Known for its seafood, Halifax has quickly become a bastion of Indian restaurants, cafes and vendors scattered throughout the city's downtown streets, malls and markets. From grand buffets for family gathering to scrumptious weekend brunches to quick appetizer fixes, if you're hungry for it, you'll find it here.

Curry Village Indian Restaurant

1569 Dresden Row, Halifax, NS B3J 2K4

With its simple but classic decor and its extensive menu, Curry Village is one of the most popular Indian restaurants in Halifax. Yummy items include the naan bread and chicken tikka, though Haligonians generally love the place for its rich and tangy sauces in such dishes as chicken korma and chana masala. Mild or spicy, single servings or grand combos, the prices are reasonable at this Halifax Indian treasure.

Dhaba Casual Fine Dining

8 Oland Cres, Halifax, NS B3S 1C6

Located off Chain Lake Road, Dhaba Express has become one of the go-to Indian joints in the city for buffets, which run on the weekends. The beef vindaloo is a fan favourite at this clean, classy restaurant, though Dhaba has a nice assemblage of appetizers and salads to go along with the curry dishes. Saturday's buffet includes several meat and veggie dishes, while Sunday's buffet serves up sambar, idli, vada and coconut chutney.

Mirchi Tandor

5232 Blowers St, Halifax, NS B3J 1J7

Another downtown favourite in the port city, Mirchi Tandoor has an impressive take-out menu in addition to its regular menu. The tandoori is all the rage here at this quiet, laid-back restaurant, though regulars love the sweet and creamy lassis as well. With a nice selection of chicken, lamb, and vegetarian dishes, and good-sized portions, Mirchi offers solid competition to the Indian mainstays in the city.

A Taste Of India

Scotia Square, NS

In business for almost 15 years, A Taste Of India is nestled in the Scotia Square food court, and they deliver the goods: a very inexpensive and tasty alternative to most mall food. What this place lacks in decor they make up for in their food. Office types like their chicken and vegetable combos. For legumes, go for the spicy chickpea.

Café Karachi

16 Titus St, Halifax, NS B3N 2Y9

A cozy and friendly Indian restaurant located in a plaza, Cafe Karachi is one of the gems of Fairview. Specializing in Pakistani, Halal and Indian cuisine, Cafe Karachi has an incredible thing called "Lazy Brunch," which includes a variety of flatbreads and curries offered on Sundays from 10 am to 2 pm. The chana-aloo bhujia is a brunch favourite.

In Montreal, the sandwich is an art form, though perhaps it's more accurate to call it a mad science. There's the wild grilled-cheese fusions offered by artisanal food truck vendors as well as quiet cafés tucked away in Old Montreal. Seafood-themed sandwiches are also popular among traditional restaurants and cafés that are eclectic in both their menus and decor. [Image credit: iStock.com/NightAndDayIimages]
Famous for its poutine and smoked meat, Montreal also boasts a number of standout bánh mì joints. Bánh mì literally translates to "all kinds of bread," though it has come to mean simply a Vietnamese sandwich. This alternative to fast food offers a sensory experience that accesses all the areas of the palate – salty, sweet, tangy and spicy. [Image credit: iStock.com/oannatkaczuk]
Montreal has a diverse number of stationery stores to suit your mood, occasion or business profile. Writers, artists and office managers alike have their pick of stationery manufacturers who supply beautiful hand-made products, in a range of paper formats, with printers or quality pens to supply that colourful ink.
