Our Optometrists
Angela Power
Dr. Angela Power is originally from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia and graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1993. She also completed a certificate in ocular therapeutics at the Oklahoma College of Optometry, Northeastern State University. After first practicing in Red Deer for a few years, she and Dr. Engel bought the practice in 1999 and have been serving here ever since. Dr. Power enjoys providing personalized, full-scope optometric care to patients of all ages and is a member of both the Alberta and Canadian Association of Optometrists, the Alberta College of Optometrists and Eye Recommend. She is also a past board member of the Lacombe and District Family and Community Support Services and a current member of Give Share Care Lacombe. Outside the clinic, Dr. Power can be found reading, golfing, playing the piano and spending time with her family. Next time you see her ask how her new vegetable garden is doing!
Grant Johnson
Kevin Engel
Dr. Kevin J. Engel grew up in Moosomin, Saskatchewan and graduated with his Doctorate from the University of Waterloo in 1994. He went on to receive his license to prescribe eye medications (topical therapeutics) from the University of Houston in 1995. In 1999 he bought the practice with Dr. Power and has happily provided eye care here since. Dr. Engel has a special interest in bifocal contact lenses and dry eye therapy. He’s also a member of both the Alberta and Canadian Association of Optometrists, the Alberta College of Optometrists and Eye Recommend, of which he was Membership Director in 2006. In his spare time, Dr. Engel enjoys weightlifting, water skiing and fly fishing. He also contributes to several civic organizations to help better the Lacombe community, including the Rotary Club of Lacombe, Operation Eyesight, the Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce, the Lacombe Bluebird Speakers (Toastmasters International) and the Lacombe-Ponoka Constituency P.C. Association.
Samantha Sperber
Dr. Samantha Sperber grew up on her family farm west of Ponoka. She obtained her BSc from MacEwan University in 2013 as the recipient of the MacEwan President's Medal for Academic Excellence and Student Leadership. In 2017, she graduated from Pacific University. She holds optometric board certifications in Canada and the United States. Dr. Sperber has a special interest in vision and learning, pediatrics and neuro-visual training, and is currently completing further post-graduate studies in these areas. She is an active volunteer both locally and globally and has travelled worldwide providing volunteer eye care to underprivileged communities. She is also a member of both the Alberta and Canadian Association of Optometrists, the Alberta College of Optometrists and the Optometric Extensions Program Foundation. In her free time, Dr. Sperber enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, hiking, working on the family farm and traveling.
