It’s not the old Michael’s on the Thames!!We have been going to the restaurant for years for special occasions when you are looking for that special dining experience where you are greeted by someone in formal attire not a tee shirt and shorts. Well it’s gone. Michaels on the Thames is just another restaurant. We were so disappointed that we will not go back.

We celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary with our family at Michaels On The Thames on Oct/5/19, we had a most enjoyable dining experience, the private dining room was a nice touch for our celebration.Joelle made us feel very welcomed and provided a service that was very much appreciated.Todd our server was super with making sure all of the guest were looked after. Special note to say the signage outside on the marquis, the 50th Anniversary cake with gold candles, was a nice touch.Thank you

This is no longer a go to place for fine dining. It should be renamed to Microwave on the Thames.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner here on our anniversary. The srvice and the food were both good. We SO appreciated our hot entrees served Hot, (as they should be) and served on hot plates!! We wish more restarateurs would do this. Also the fancy chocolate-dipped strawberries in whipped cream were a surprise for our anniversary! Nice touch in a pleasant atmosphere.

Food experience

I was for dinner with my wive on our anniversary and especialy choose this restaurant because of its classical cuisine , since I am in the food industry for about 45 years and more , European trained . To see a beurre blanc on a fish Veronique was extremely disappointed .. this is supposed to be served with a sauce Hollandaise , even the Beurre blanc was wrong ! With a strong strong culinary back ground it was very sad to see that there was No knowledge behind the product

Birthday

Brought my wife out for her birthday last night and we were seated in the "anniversary room"...didn't know it was the anniversary room, but everyone else there was receiving free deserts for their anniversary. In any event, the owner ignored our table, but stopped at the other 4 tables and conversed and dished out free deserts...frankly a little conversation would have gone a lot further than a free desert ;) I ordered the duck l'orange and it was great. My wife ordered veal and she loved it. The wait staff seemed busy chatting as my dish was prepared at the table and my wife's dish took a while to come out...after mine was already there. One of the myriad of waitresses came to the table and asked; "Where is your food?" My instinct was to say that I was hiding it, but we both shook our heads...the food came out 2 minutes later. It took FOREVER to get the check and we simply got up and started walking...nothing like a $100+ check leaving a table to get a waitress' attention. Again, good food...bad service. Is it worth the $40 average entree price? Nope.

Getting Old

Is it me or is this place getting old. We hadn't been in a while but were in the mood for a good steak so we gave it a try. The décor has not been updated in forever, the staff is friendly, but the menu is as old as the décor. We ordered the ny strip and prime rib. The NY was as tough as a shoe -- terrible. And the sides were equally as poor -- under cooked potato and cold vegtables. The prime rib was a little better but extremely fatty. We were really bummed and will not be back until we see some serious upgrades going on.

Excellent and a London Staple!!

My husband and I have made Michael's a part of out life for many years now, for personal celebrations and business meeting lunches. The atmosphere is classy and elegant and so are the staff! The food is wonderful!! I would recommend this resturant to anyone.

Outstanding...again

This place is a must for a classy, fine meal. The wait staff are excellent, extremely friendly and welcoming. We ordered the prime rib (captain's cut) it came with just the right amount of veggies and a perfectly cooked baked potato. I ordered the salmon and was extremely impressed by the moist texture and presentation. I ordered extra vegtables in place of rice and they loaded the plate right up. Our waitress was extremely accomodating and stopped by just the right number of times to fill our glasses. The atmosphere is a little old and suffy but still classy. When you are in the mood to taste what a great meal really is and want a special dinning place go to Michaels.

London's Flagship Restaurant

Micheal's on the Thames is about the best when it comes to restaurant's in London Ontario. We've been about 4 times now and are always please with the food and the great dining experience. I love the prime rib and order it everytime, my wife liked the duck that is done at tableside as well as the Ceasar Salad. Micheal's is a guaranteed great night out! You do have to reach in to the pockets a bit deeper but it is well worth it.

Fine Dining

A little overpriced for what you get but not bad. Steak, potatoes, salad, all in a tux atmosphere. Nice place for celebrating something special but a little overrated. The service is nice but overall it reminds me too much of an old country club.

Private Room for Meetings

Great place to book a business meeting. Private room was great. We decided to meet here regularly so were able to set up a 3 selection menu choice for a set price. It was great. Looked forward to lunch every week. Not too mention the numerous times I have come with my husband for dinner. Great all around experience.

I keep going back....

I have been here before and decided to try the steak here this time. The service upon entering the restaurant is exceptional. We had made reservations and I do recommend that. We were served warm rolls and butter and I ordered a shirley temple that was delicious and prompt. My companion and I ordered the prime rib and steak. I ordered mine medium well and my companion ordered the prime rib as medium. They came exactly as ordered and were delicious. The sides were some vegetables and I had mashed potatoes and my companion had a baked potato. The casear salad was good w/real bacon and tasty croutons. The sides were average, I've had better mashed potatoes but were okay. The dessert was prepared beside our table and it was delicious. It was soo good and an excellent end to a fine meal. I want to come back and try the Strawberries alla marco:)

Very pleasant professional staff

Although located downtown, it could be described as off the beaten track. Situated alongside the Thames River at the York Street bridge, a street that would not be described as a thoroughfare, one’s purpose would be to search for this restaurant. We were greeted by a consistently very pleasant professional staff, and the decor, which was first class, created an excellent fine dining atmosphere. We were led to the comfortable balcony room, overlooking the river that was mainly hidden by trees (It would be wonderful in the winter). We chose a Caesar salad and soup for starters, and a rib sandwich and ‘fish of the day’ as entrees. The salad was perfect and the mushroom soup was very tasty. I had failed to note the soup ingredients and was curious about a meat-like texture similar to tofu - it was explained to me as asparagus, ham and mushroom. The rib sandwich was accompanied by sweet potato fries, and the cod fish was served in a spicy Thai curry sauce on a bed of couscous - obviously, the cod was not locally caught but, also, it was not equal to the flaky North Atlantic variety of my youth. I believe that this species has been well overfished, and the farmed and frozen variety should be avoided, until it has fully recovered in the ocean (I suppose that makes me seem like a hypocrite). An enjoyable glass of a full-bodied Ontario Pinot Noir was included. During the evening there is live piano music, and one will never forget the warm Italian welcome by the proprietor, Jack diCarlo. Unfortunately, as I walked back into town, my stomach had a very uneasy feeling, causing my head to believe that I had drunk a full bottle of wine rather than just a glass - I feel sure that it was due to the tofu-tasting ham in the soup, and I did not fully recover until the following morning. I hope that there is a serious evaluation of the kitchen and its’ staff.

MY first thought on seeing the interior of Michaels on the Thames is that it is just as a high class restaurant should look. That is if I were basing my opinions on movies I watched as a kid. I'm sure 20 years ago this place would have been the epitome of high class. Now; however, it just feels dated. The menu resembles the decor unfortunately. With quite a few dishes and honestly no coherent feel for what the restaurant specializes in, I found myself unimpressed with any choices. We started with an order of spring rolls, which were cold, and were no better than the frozen deep fried fare at any number of cheap asian restaurants. For the main course I ended up ordering the peppercorn duck, with was slathered in a steak sauce that totally masked any flavor that wasn't burnt out of the duck. The duck itself was completely black and inedible around the edges, and quite dry and tough inside. It was garnished with baby veg which was greasy.

Probably one of the nicest restaurant's I've ever eaten in - in Canada. Staff was excellent, and the place is very fancy. We we're serenaded by several musicians through the night. If I remember right, there was a piano player, an accordion player, and an opera singer. Food was excellent I would return here again. For a fancy place, the bill really was not that much.

Hard to go wrong here. I've been several times, and the service and food are wonderful. The Maitre D is a bit over the top, but it's obvious he likes what he's doing. It's pricey for me, but worth every penny.
