We arrived 6:25 and left 9:21 almost 3 hours to eat. It took 1 hour to get the first course and 2 hours for the other 4 courses. The restaurant was tastefully decorated, the service staff friendly, the food was good but certainly not outstanding, it took forever to get it and not much of it when it came. I would never order the tasting menu again. The most memorable thing was the bill, $327.00 for two people for a dinner that took 3 hours. Just not worth the money.
Excellent meal. The food and the service was exceptional. Thank you!
Amazing food! Amazing Service!
Enjoyed a wonderful evening at Quatrefoil....amazing tasting menu paired with fine wines....a one of a kind experience available upon request....knowledgeable staff and very good service. Moreover the owners take great pains to ensure an fabulous dining experience ....a must try
Our evening started by driving down the north side of the escarpment which offered us a fantastic view of the city of Hamilton and the mountain. The parking lot for the restaurant was full - but there was plenty of free municipal parking nearby. The restaurant is located in a charming heritage home and upon entering we immediately felt warm and welcome. Following drink orders, (Micro-brewed beer $6 and glass of house red $10) and getting over the initial sticker shock, the waiter tempted us with some wild mushroom soup ($9), which came with a dollop of creme fraiche and a good waft of black truffle. My wife really wanted to order the truffle gnocci first course which was raved about in a review in Zoomer magazine, but it was sadly no longer available. She had the pickerel feature ($32) while I couldn't resist the beef tenderloin prepared medium rare ($40). A nice assortment of home-baked breads and some irresistable little breadsticks were offered, followed by a delectable amuse bouche. Our perfect meals arrived in good time, and desert was offered - but we were all too full, a testament to the portion size. Still, a small plate of too-hard-to-resist handmade chocolate truffles arrived regardless, and we found some room afterall. I can't wait to go back.
I read about Quatrefoil on Air Canada's in-flight magazine as one of Canada's top 10 new restaurants. I was amazed and delighted that this was not in Toronto! I went there for lunch with a colleague and it was amazing. The appetizers were beautifully done. I tried the whimsically named "All Day Breakfast". The crisp duck egg was absolutely incredible. My colleague tried the scallop which was beautifully presented. The main course of Rainbow Trout and Lamb Shank was cooked to perfection. The wine list was extensive but not overwhelming and reasonably priced. The service was attentive and friendly. Not the cheapest lunch I have ever had but well worth it.
We celebrated a recent wedding anniversary having lunch at this PERFECT restaurant in Dundas. Everything that we had - from appetizers right down to coffee - was simply over-the-top. Please forgive the adjectives. This place, the servers and the chef richly deserve them! I'd say that all of the dishes that we ate had a definite and contemporary Western/Southern European touch - along with a light, ‘local’ Canadian tone, too. Well, that's not surprising. We'd heard somewhere that the chef (Fraser) had trained in Europe for a few years. It's a gorgeous restaurant in a large and handsome old home. Yet, it's very clean, contemporary and elegant inside. The service was prompt and impeccable. We've eaten in terrific places in Toronto, Montreal and B.C. (e.g. Sooke Harbour House, Vij's and Lumiere) and also in California, France, Spain and Italy. And we think that the unique and perfectly prepared and seasoned food at Quatrefoil ranks up there with the best of them. The butter (served with our lovely mixed artisan breads) was mixed with fresh herbs that included chopped chives, parsley and tarragon. Just delicious. One appetizer was a fresh-tasting (and beautiful) corn soup. Another appetizer was small, hot parsleyed gnocchi mixed with baby squash and tiny tomatoes, with a wonderful light sauce made with top quality XV olive oil. I was so tempted to cancel my main order and to order another serving of this mouth-watering gnocchi dish. (The BEST that I have ever tasted). One main was Eggs Benedict and it was wonderful. The other main was mussels mixed with finely chopped Spanish Chorizo and a nice broth. Also delightful. We shared one dessert with our *very* fresh coffee (which they served in a French Press) - lavender creme brûlée, a delicate lavender cookie and a fresh plum sorbet. Perfectly done. We also had some really good Ontario artisan beer (Wellington) and a glass of good white wine from Fielding Estates. We shared 2 glasses of sparkly, compliments of the house. Perhaps a bit pricey just for lunch (all in, for $115), but, it was so wonderful that it was truly worth it. We left feeling very well fed and so thrilled that we’d found this special place!
Second visit - even better than the first. I had the scallop & porkbelly app while my wife had the gnocchi. Both were excellent. For mains I had the Tuna special and the lady had the beef. Both were fantastic. Hats off to the chef for some very interesting food matchups. Nothing you'd necessarily expect to see together but it all seems to work out once it's in your mouth. Presentation was beautiful and the restaurant itself is quite nice. Fabulous food and worth the money. I've paid the same at other restaurants and been incredibly disappointed.
Beautiful patio to have lunch on! Food was lovely. Pretty to look at and great to eat. Sampler of daily corn soup was unbelievable! I'd just eat that all day long. Portion size adequate for lunch but hope dinner is larger. Risotto slightly under seasoned with no option on table to adjust
