In the late months of 2012, Taylor Freund was a bike messenger who felt the burrito selection in Montreal was lacking. “He just wanted to provide burritos to Montreal because he found that there wasn't a very good selection,” says Velo Burrito co-owner Sarah Charrouf. The following January, Taylor did what any aspiring burrito-rateur would do: he rented a kitchen in St-Henri with his friend, TJ Stevenson, and used his bicycle to deliver burritos around the neighbourhood.
At the time, Sarah selling her vegan cupcakes, but the upstart burrito place was so busy that she ended up becoming a partner for the new business. “I had my desserts for sale, but the phone was ringing off the hook!” she says, and so she became a partner and chef in the business.
Currently, Sarah and Taylor own and operate the kitchen, which moved from St-Henri to Notre Dame Des Quilles, a bar on Beaubien Street in Rosemont, where they now serve customers in-house as well as by bicycle.
