Meet the owner

"Happy he who like Ulysses has travelled well." Who’s never heard this line from a poem that bears the name of this famous character? The hero of Greek mythology, Ulysses, has also lent his name to a bookstore and well-known publishing house in Quebec, Ulysse la Librairie de Voyage.

Claude Morneau is the vice-president and one of the company's three shareholders. Even though he was not the founder of the first bookstore when it opened in 1980, he has been working for the company for decades and is the founder of the company's principal activity, its publishing house.

Since 1990, Ulysse la Librairie de Voyage has been designing travel guides and books adapted to travellers from this area. "At the time, one of the popular destinations was Costa Rica and nothing was available in French. So I translated an English guide written by an American living there. This is how the Ulysse guides began," says Claude. The books are now also exported to the European francophone market.

    J´ai acheté un livre en prenant la peine de demander au caissier si je pouvais me faire rembourser au besoin. La semaine suivante, je me suis présenté pour me faire rembourser et ils ont refusé en me disant qu´ils ne font pas de remboursement. À éviter!
