I've always wanted to try this place because the location is great and it's close to home. My friend and I sat in the patio area and it was beautiful, however the waitress was not too pleasant. We ordered the bucket of beer, 5 bottles for 17$, they did not have Canadian which was disappointing. We both ordered the steak sandwich which does not say on the menu it is served open faced. The steak was bland and overdone as we requested medium, it was well done. I asked the server if I could have half fries and half salad like I order at the penalty box. She gave me a look that made me feel like I was being difficult. She could not answer the question and acted irritated and said "I have to ask the cook". So my friend just said she'll have fries and I can get the salad then we can share. The salad was just spring mix with some sort of vinaigrette that we both did not like. The fries were shoestring and not salted at all. The bun that the steak was served on was hard as a rock and after we were served our food the waitress did not come back for 45 minutes. I would not recommend this place. If I ever go back it will be to sit on the patio with a bucket of beer.
I can't remember the last time I had such terrible service. I can understand mistakes, but the attitude we got was ridiculous. I felt uncomfortable the entire time, as if we were rude to want to be there and eat what we ordered. The food was okay, but nothing special--definitely not worth the hassle.
Just had dinner at the bistro and it was fantastic. The service was great and the waitress was very helpful and answered all the questions we had about the menu and drinks. She was very personable and made the evening very enjoyable. The food was fantastic. We had the crab and shrimp cakes and bruschetta for appetizers which were great. All four of our entrees were hot, flavourful and delicious. We had two pasta dishes, lamb chops and a chicken dish which were all delightful. We were able to substitute sides without a problem or fuss from the waitress. We also had two desserts which were also fantastic. I have been to the bistro now four times and very time I have had something different and it has always been great. No complaints about anything. Great evening and atmosphere with a fantastic meal. Would definitely return.
There is a waitress, she is old who has husky voice, she kills the whole restaurant business. Food is good (but don't order their mussels. It were very salty), the service is horrible you can imagine. She looks down the customers and she thinks we are all idiots. We want to talk to the owner but why bother. We simply started to say to anybody in Windsor that "Don't go the Bistro at the River". We can tell anyone about our terrible experiences at Bistro about 10 minutes, no problem and our stories are quite good, too. So, if you consider to go the restaurant, please don't waste your precious time and money. With our good hearts we want to tell everyone, "Don't go there!!!!!" It's a very shame. it's a fantastic view of Detroit.
Never been more disappointed. I have never written a review for a restaurant before because I have never been so compelled to. Server was rude and could not answer any question we had. The menu online does not reflect the actual menu...I was very much looking forward to having ceviche which they promote on their online menu and they no longer have it. I was looking forward to various choices of local wine which they promote in their online menu and they only had the pelee (which I enjoy but Aleksandar Estate's Baco Noir is superb and was looking forward to it). My steak was so tough I could barely cut it and half of it was fat. Worst steak ever, I have steak once a week and can cook it better myself, I almost want to say they pan fried it because they taste was appalling. The mussels were very salty and had no flavour. Everything lacked flavour overall. I often order these items off menus and I am very tolerate of the way my food is cooked, I'll eat almost anything but I will never give this place another chance. My fiancé had the stuffed chicken and he is not a picky eater and he hated it. Everything looked good but did not live up to it's appearance. The only thing I enjoyed was the inexpensive wine prices.
Been here a few times in the summer. Food is good, not great in my opinion. Service has been good but not great. Great spot right downtown overlooking the water. It's all about the location.
This restaurant is perfect for romantic settings, my boyfriend and I have been coming for almost two years now. We have never had to complain about service and our food is always great. Drinks are usually made strong (which is certainly not a complain on my part), and I suggest the Sangria. I've come to really enjoy the fajitas, and my boyfriend enjoys the 'river burger' (massive burger). It's a bit chilly inside usally so a light jacket should be suffucient, as for outside it's quite brilliant, especially on a summer night. Valentines Day there was pleasant, very dim lighting with candles at each table, decoration were lovely as well. We're actually going again tonight, for an anniversary dinner = )
We are group of Medical students visiting from Toronto ( South Asian background). We reached there to enjoy dinner by the river, we wanted to sit out in the patio, the server said that they were short staffed some of the sections were closed but there were seats around the already seated guests available, she insisted that we should sit inside. She inquired if we were having drinks or dinner, we responded with ‘ we are looking forward to dinner as we heard great things about this place’. Then she tried to seat us outside but then said we cannot seat you there [seats were available], how about inside. We asked if we could wait for tables until it became available. She responded have a seat, as we waited 10 minutes, the host came and said our kitchen is closed and will not be able to serve you. She knew that we wanted to have dinner prior and she should have mentioned that earlier, very disappointing. We are open mined individual but we agreed the way she treated us seem like she did not want to seat us outside as we may shine a bad light on the restaurant’s reputation and wanted us to seat us inside. It seemed like she went out of her way to make us feel this way. I could be wrong, but this is how we felt and is not be acceptable. I hope they serve to diverse community.
I had just visited the Bistro at the River this past Saturday with a party of friends and felt obligated to make my praises heard. First off, the food is phenomenal, hats off to the chef. There has never been a time where I was disappointed with any of the entrees, apps or desserts. Despite the fact that both the patio and the inside were quite busy our server made it a priority to ensure that we had everything we needed, she was polite and friendly and even kept us laughing. To start we had calamari and bruschetta which were both delicious, not to mention unique. As for the entrees we had a variety of different things, each with a beautiful plate design, large portions and an abundance of flavour. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone. The view is breathtaking, the service is wonderful, and the food is delicious! We'll be back!
One of the best meals we've had in a restaurant in Windsor for a long time. Very tasty and a steal in the value for money category. A real treat! We're looking forward to our next visit
from the moment we walked in was a very bad sign it was not going to be a good time. not only did we have to seat ourselves but we had to clear our table ourselves too. clearly they were understaffed. we had to wait a long time for everything. the menus, the appetizers, the drinks, and the meal. i ordered the fajitas, some mashed potatoes and a salad. everything came all at the same time. not enough room for everything on the table. my fajitas came with all the fixings but no sour cream, no spoon to scoop with and no plate to eat off of. the server was nowhere to be found and after a considerable wait time i decided to go inside to inform them of my lack of supplies. we were out on the patio which was very lovely as the view and the weather was very nice. when i went inside to tell the manager of my request for sour cream, a plate and a spoon not only was she horribly rude but she did not care at all about my concerns. she simply said we don't have any sour cream and you have to wait for your server. i said "no sour cream?" she said that's right we ran out. i said if i had known that you had no sour cream i never would have ordered it. she didn't care. the server and manager came outside to talk to us and again the manager was extremely rude to us. i told her i'm upset and had no intentions of eating my meal. i lost my appetite. she said you mean to tell me you are going to waste all that food? earlier the server admitted to us that they were understaffed and because the bartender had quit(gee...i wonder why?) the servers had to tend bar as well. i've eaten at many restaurants before and i have never experienced such an event. i will never, never, ever go back and i suggest everyone stay far, far away from that place. you will all be sorry if you go!!!!
We came for the summerfest carnaval, but we were early....it wasn't open yet, so we decided to have lunch here first..The astmosphere was nice. There is an outdoor patio with a great view of Detroit. Our food all came at different times. I ordered chicken fingers. They did not look that great (they looked like the frozen store bought kind you get at your grocery store freezer), but maybe they tasted good? I took a bite and it tasted really fishy and moist...my nephew (who is not a picky eater) had one and said that it tasted like fish. I agreed. I took a closer look and saw that the meat looked kind of pink (raw?). So I told our waitress. She said that the chicken is specially marinated prior to breading so that it has a moist taste on the inside (What??>?)..I also told her it tasted fishy. She said that she would take it to the Chef. We got the bill and the chicken fingers were still on there. I asked the waitress about it...and she said that she showed the chicken to the chef and she said that he said it was cooked to "temperature" and if I wanted she could pack it for me to take home (I couldn't believe she said this..." I was going to pursue this further, but there were kids with us and obviously, the staff was indifferent and didn't care. I will never eat here again and it wouldn't recommend it to anybody.
Excellent food - well spiced and kind to the palate - loved the caesar salad - great with asiago cheese and REAL bacon. We sat on the patio and the weather was wonderful. Our server was the best - very personable and funny - great job Anna. We picked this restaurant for it's location for summer sitting and wanted to try it out for a change of pace. Thumbs up to the chef for wonderful meals for all the ladies. We shall visit again.
Dinner started with an overly strong margarita. The soup was at par with most restaurants, next to come was the steak, which by the way they finally decided to bring us our bread, you know the bread that should be at the table when we sit down. Back to the steak. We had ordered gravy and the waitress said be right back with the gravy...... she never came back. The manager came and asked how the steak was, the medium steak was RAW, so it was sent back to the kitchen. Finally it came back..... I took one bite and realized that I wouldn't feed it to my dog. It's my birthday today, which happens to be valentines day, and they didn't even offer to lighten the bill for any amount. I would never eat here or recommend this place to anyone. Signed, I hated this place so much that I took the time to register to this site to post this review.
Such a nice location but disappointing service and food. Overpriced and slow - there are much nicer restaurants in Windsor for the price.
Fast, friendly service and the best food you can get in this area. Love this place! The pizza soup is amazing!!!
