Disgusting. This refers to everything: food quality, service and atmosphere. Never return. Lowest standards ever experienced.
Absolutely disgusting. All the food is old and gross. Staff are rude. Horrible experience. Don't ever go here.
Over 50 minutes to get part of our first sushi order. People who came 15 minutes after my wife and I got their large order after sitting for about 15 minutes. We got our order from the back, rice, chicken, and soup. We complained and they gave us a $2 discount (off $31) for essentially 7 pieces of sushi (missed our Dragon roll and Mango/Cucumber Roll), a tiny amount of chicken, rice and soup. The table of 8 behind us were so fed up after 45 minutes of only getting soup that they left without pay
Ye's sushi is probably one of the best places in the whole K-W area to get sushi. It is truly a wonderful experience. The service was good, nothing to complain. The atmosphere was not all that good, but all of those dissapointments were made up in the food. The food is phenomenal; there is nothing thats "adequate" about it. It is really a "one of a kind" experience for any of you that haven't had sushi. The portions are nicely sized, and overall well worth the money. Would I visit again? Absolutely!
This place is always packed and always dirty, but it's SO good, most of the time. The service is very indifferent/poor; most of the waiting staff do not even speak English. But I don't go here for the service or for the decor... the sushi is wonderful!!! I love that they don't pack the sushi with rice like many restaurants in the area do...however, one time there was a stench emanating from the sashimi... it was unusual but I have since forgiven them for that. So I guess the only thing consistent about this place is that they will mess up your order.
The place is amazing if your looking for great, fresh sushi at a reasonable price. You can't go wrong with all you can eat. The staff do mix orders up sometimes, or forget to bring you what you ordered, or sometimes bring you something you didn't order. Not a deal breaker through. The atmosphere of the place is a little bland and boring, they definately need to spice things up a bit. All in all the place is adequate. The food is all that matters for me though, absolute best in K-W! ! !
Ye's is pretty much our standard place for Sushi in Waterloo. It's where we go when we're craving sushi in KW. It's all you can eat, and has a decent selection of sashimi, sushi, rolls, and other entrees. I especially love the green onion beef rolls, and the chicken and beef skewers. Plus they finally removed the limit on red tuna (my favourite sashimi). The service is mildly horrible, which is typical for these sorts of busy all you can eat places, but I think they're substandard even considering. Extra advice: If drinking pop, get coke and NEVER GET SPRITE. If you do, when you ask for a refill the waitresses stick their noses into the cups to check if it's pop or water. Extremely rude and disgusting! They have improved on some things, eg they automatically serve you soup spoons with your miso (which is traditionally eaten without spoons but enough people must ask for it). The food is the part that (sort of) makes up for the bad service. Like any all you can eat sushi place, they miss (ignore?) some of the ordered items. This leads to quandries where we eat all our food, order more, and then the rolls come super late, leaving us with too many rolls for too few people. We try not to go during peak periods, when the place is packed with students, but from May to August the place is not too crowded. At first, this Waterloo location was much better than the downtown Kitchener location in terms of roominess, cleanliness and promptness with food. Unfortunately, it eventually gave way to the strain of too many people and the service has suffered. We now go to the Kitchener-Sportsworld location instead.
I've been to Ye's many times, and there's no doubt that the food is excellent! The Spicy Dragon Roll is my favourite and I've never been disappointed with the quality of the food. However, the restaurant lacks in service. Some waitresses had a hard time understanding English, and although I don't care too much for this, other waitresses were slightly rude which I found was consistent in both locations. The past few visits, our orders had been forgotten or misplaced. Though I find it understandable for mistakes to happen, I've experienced the same on multiple visits to Ye's. Nonetheless, I will return to the restaurant because the food is worth it! And don't forget to try the Spicy Dragon Roll :)
Went to give it a 3rd try and should have learned from the first two times I went there. Service is bad, came to our table once and the sushi isn't what we ordered. The rice in the sushi was warm making the roll taste less than desirable. I refuse to go back.
INITIAL: Seeing as how I go to school in Waterloo, it wasn't hard to hear about this place from students. Located near Conestoga Mall, the restaurant is really easy to find. ATMOSPHERE: It is fairly large restaurant with good atmosphere for a large "get-together" kind of setting. The decor is nice for an all-you-can-eat (AYCE) restaurant. FOOD: The menu looks long and extensive, but the food was nothing spectacular. The food lacked quality worth paying 25 dollars for a dinner buffet. At times, the sashimi that was being served wasn't even fresh, and the batter-to-shrimp ratio for tempura was ridiculous. There was way too much batter for the size of the shrimp. Most of the time, they wouldn't give you the amount you ordered. But it's not really a big problem, since its an AYCE restaurant, so you can always order again. I think the restaurant is only still open today because of the convenience relative to the university students, and that most of its patrons are university students. Otherwise, it wouldn't have stood a chance given its quality. SERVICE: The service is okay, but not too great. I get mixed results everytime I go. General consensus is that if you do not speak Mandarin or Cantonese, sometimes the waiters/waitresses wouldn't fully understand you. I had this personal experience when I tried to make a reservation by telephone. After trying to tell the waitress how many people and what time it was for, I gave up and resorted to just speaking in Mandarin. OVERALL: I've only actually wanted to go try out this restaurant for the first time. After that, the reason I went back was because it was for someone's birthday or just a gathering in general. Despite the recent added competition from Sushi 99, you would think they would up the quality, but it is still pretty much the same. New menu design, same food quality.
Ye's sushi started out great and quickly became a very popular all you can eat buffet. However over the years the quality of food and the value has gone down considerably. Perhaps because of the massive popularity and the place always being packed at lunch by poor hungry students, Ye's have decided that they will cut costs by cutting corners. Certains ways they have done this are: -Limits per person on some items -Leaving some items that were ordered out, and never delivering them -Making low grade sushi with more than usual amounts of rice -Trying to push the "dinner menu" during late lunch hours -Using cheaper and poor quality ingredients -Serving unimpressive and bland food At this point the value has not dropped down enough to prevent me from going there, however each time I feel less and less satisfied. If and when I find a good alternative I will probably not set foot in Ye's again.
I love sashimi and this place serves it only during dinner when the prices match that level of food. However they do something really gay. They give you really good salmon sashimi, the best i ever had, and then they just stop after about 30 pieces. This is where it gets gay, no offense to gay people (they have really nice closets). They start giving you sloppy b-grade sashimi that you know is about to go bad. I mean it doesn't smell or anything, but it is not the rich dark color it is supposed to be. Other than that, great food and service...Actually their service is really elusive, like catching a greased up naked running man. You see the waitresses basically need you to be a whacky wavy inflatable arm waving tube man and you need to call for their attention with your mouth. But still i'd go again, great food.
I've eaten here quite a few times, mostly because of it's Delicious food. The Green Dragon Roll was definitely my favorite! The menu here is great and easy to understand, and also there is a variety to choose from. The value is awesome as you get great food at a great price. Most importantly, tips are not included anymore. We pay whatever we like based on our dining experience.
sushi is one of my fav foods. i am not expecting high end sushi, but i been very many times in this place i can only say the first time was great. i went out with a friend to Ye's in waterloo, and the food was terrible, i couldnt even swallow it. You pay 24$ to eat a bowel of rice. the rolls were thick not even cut even, didnt fit in my mouth.!! def worst experience at a resturant overall. not to mention they kept screwing up the orders and losing our papper. imy friend and i left grossed out after and we wont be returning ever.
ok, now im not the type to complain about a buffet of sushi, and ive lived in japan and can say that the food here can compare to average restaurants in tokyo, BUT THE SERVICE IS UNBELIEVABLY ..... i dont even have a word its times like this that i wish i were a poet. for lack of a better description, the service was absolutely horrible. now, ive been to this restaurant many times, and it never gets better, 1 out of 3 staff smile, and the rest just mope arount smiling only at each other as they speak in LOUD mandarin. not to mention that my financee likes to take her time on her miso soup, saving the best for last, and they ALWAYS (without fail,... even once....) take it away when its half full. if you dont care about service and are ok with mediocre food. then this is the place for you!!!!
In a sentence, great food, service could be improved. For a sushi dinner where the food is made as you order the price is fair. The range of food is incredible ranging from your basic rice dishes to all the sushi and maki dishes. We have been back to this restaurant repeatedly, which I think speaks for itself. If you can overlook the sometimes slow to respond staff you are sure of a good meal.
Birthday Bomb! We were celebrating mine and my friends birthday. So, we made a reservation for 45 people for Friday @ 7pm. We called a week in advance, and made a follow-up phone call the day before. When we arrived at the restaurant they were aware of our reservation but made no such accommodations. They sat us and 41 of our friends all over the restaurant. The staff were especially rude to two guests that used wheelchairs. With regards to the food: Rice in the sushi was too dry. The rolls were cut way too big. Also, they did not nicely cut off the rolls, they gave us the tattered end pieces. They brought out food that we had asked for first order after stuff that we had asked for in our second order.
Food was very pricey for what you got. The service was terribly slow and they would ignore orders from you if they thought you ate too much or something. They did not give us drinks either. Waiters were very rude. I guess that's the reason they already charge tips in the bill rather than leaving it to the customers. Atmosphere was very crowded and noisy, and the tables were pretty dirty and smelled bad.
Food is good but the service is bad. The waiters were not polite and some orders they purposely did not do (I saw one of the waiters throw out our order). They also take away your menu so you can't order anymore. They basically forced us out (no menu to order, trashed orders we were making).
Went with my husband after he went here for a work outing and kept talking about how good it was. As soon as we opened the door the noise level was out of control it was just like a high school cafeteria. It was fairly busy on this day but we were seated quickly. I was glad my husband knew how to order because I could only imagine how often the employees get asked that type of question and how annoying it must be. We ordered a little bit of everything and it all tasted great except for one sushi roll which we sent back. Tips are added directly to your bill. They also have a giant tip jar by the register if your previous tip already wasn't enough.
