Tilde is a taco joint on Danforth Avenue that offers contemporary and light Mexican cuisine alongside a variety of local craft beers and delicious cocktails. Open since 2014, the casual Mexican eatery is the vision of co-owner and executive chef Gauravi Shah who made the move to a culinary career from a previous background in engineering. A perhaps unusual offering for the otherwise predominently Greek neighbourhood, Gauravi noticed that tacos were missing in the east end of Toronto.
“The Danforth is a very cosmopolitan area; we serve everyone from college-age kids to young professionals popping in for lunch, to couples with babies coming for an early dinner,” says Gauravi. “We’ve been trying to take every opportunity to open up our demographic, like hosting paint nights and other special events to attract new customers.”
For the entire day on February 14, you can enjoy All-You-Can-Eat Wings, Tacos, Dessert and More for only $24.99.
This is one of the least conventional, most fun options I’ve ever seen for the usually staid holiday.
Hey, if you can get down and dirty and eat messy wings and tacos with your loved one, and eat an embarrassing quantity in comfort, you’re definitely with the right person.
An engineer by trade, Gauravi Shah quit that career to bring her tempting taco creations to the streets of Toronto. Take advantage of the specials on margaritas and tequila shots while enjoying a real taco, without the health concerns of fast food. The menu is designed to provide vegans, vegetarians and gluten-free diners with guidance on which tacos are best-suited for them. Be sure to check out Sangria Saturdays and craft beer Thursdays.
If your Mexican thing is tacos, you’ll love Tilde. It’s open for lunch, dinner and brunch on the weekends when it serves what it describes as ‘contemporary tacos’. The chef is inspired by Mexican fare with international influences, creating a unique fusion taste. Just about everything except the flour is made from scratch! Local craft beers plus signature cocktails complement the spicy flavours nicely.
