Rahul Saxena, M.D. opened Roundhouse Pediatrics in the Junction in 2014 with a plan. He wanted to provide community pediatric and teen services with an eye on improving the medical experience for families. In his previous work in hospitals and busy pediatric clinics, he was often frustrated by the fact that patients would be expected to wait up to two hours for a regularly scheduled appointment.
Dr. Saxena’s goal is to book appointments in such a way that he is able to keep on schedule. Of course, emergencies do occur and sometimes appointments do run long. “And often, new parents have a million questions which I do love to answer, though it definitely takes extra time.” His goal is to keep patients waiting no longer than 15 minutes during scheduled check-ups.
During daily walk-in hours for urgent care needs, waiting times will vary. Taking a cue from busy restaurants, the office will allow parents to check-in, and leave their cell phone numbers to be texted when they are within 10 minutes of being seen. This minimizes the number of sick children having to wait together thereby reducing shared germs.
