The humble premises of Pizza Pide belie the gastronomic pleasures that spill out of its kitchen. The usual flat-pie suspects get recast as Turkish pides at this Leslieville fave, where prices are reasonable and the signature dishes are big enough to satisfy two. These oblong vehicles of done-to-perfection, butter-and-egg-washed crust play golden host to a raft of fresh, inventive ingredients, from feta cheese and lamb to cured sausage and chicken strips. There's no tomato sauce base on a Turkish pizza, but onions, hot peppers, tomatoes and parsley are served on the side. The whole enterprise at Pizza Pide is a gloriously no-frills affair. On-line reviewers consistently acknowledge how friendly the staff is here.more...See more text
The classics are called classic for a reason. Some of the best food comes from the recipes of our rustic forefathers; hearty, simple dishes that have stood the test of time. This is certainly the case when it comes to Turkish pides. They're popularly known as a sort of Turkish pizza, but there are two key differences: they aren’t covered in sauce and the toppings have a touch of Eastern exoticism.
"Often Turkish people come and tell me that our pides are better than from back home," says Mustafa Okzan, owner of Pizza Pide. Mustafa features more than 20 different varieties of the delicious traditional dish in his restaurant. "Here we can use more meat because in Turkey meat is very expensive,” he says. “Here we can be a little more generous!" The pides also come in vegetarian varieties, so there’s something for all appetites and preferences here.
Takeout is GREAT - eat in - bah - atmosphere bites :). Really really good middle eastern take on pizza - so much flavor - can be oily ..just dab it with paper towel :). Make sure to eat the side 'salad' of onion and parsley with the pizza - it really does make a difference. We love it - don't let them put 2 pizza's in one box - they totally stick together and it's a mess (I know ..environmentally you really really want to - but don't - trust me).
Yummieness - truly.
