When Globe Bistro opened its doors in 2006, it specialized in fresh, local dishes, which were difficult to prepare winter. Owner Ed Ho says that from November to spring, the menu was almost entirely made up of root vegetables. After a few years of short summers, he on the 100-mile concept.
“You can only eat so many beets," says Ed. "We really tried to be hyper-local Ontario the first five years, but it’s hard to be exciting when you don’t have fresh produce that’s coming regularly." Even lake fish isn't available in the winter.
Ed has since revised his definition of local to embrace the best of Canada, including PEI oysters and cheese from Quebec. Big meat still comes from Ontario, he says, and a surge in greenhouses over the past decade means his Danforth restaurant can serve tomatoes before August.
The menu at Globe Bistro has been known to include charcoal grilled lobster salad, Canadian oysters, chantecler chicken and vegetarian plates like cavetelli served with vegetables or a chick pea puree served with seasonal vegetables. "The food here is fine dining, but you can also order steak frites," says Ed.

Had dinner there on a Sunday night recently. I have walked by many times not realizing how nice the dining room was. There is a fun bar area up front that I noticed walking by , but I wasn't expecting such a nice room in back. Started with oysters, followed by a veal dish. My wife had the beef tenderloin, both were excellent. Server was smooth and there whenever he was needed. Great wine list.
Finally! High End worth the price. This is a pretty pricy place best reserved for special occasions or people living very comfortably. But while many places at the high end of the scale put form ahead of substance, the Globe really delivers. Imaginative, adventurous and extremely well executed food, delivered by servers who are passionate about the food and focused on your comfort. The best food I've had in years. Unpretentious while still thoroughly upscale.
This is my absolute FAVORITE restaurant in Toronto! The Sunday brunch is fantastic with a choice of entrees that are all outstanding. Ingredients are fresh with lots of organics and superbly crafted sauces. My particular favorites are the homemade quiche and the eggs with pico de gallo. Atmosphere is upscale, warm modern, very chi chi. Dinners are amazing, a perfect place for an intimate evening with a date or friends. Menu changes seasonally. Lots to choose from for those who love organic meats. Vegetarians will also find mouth-watering options.Servers are extremely helpful. Fine dining without the condescending attitude! The lounge section is a great place for a drink and supper after a long day.
This I have to say is one of my top 10 places to dine in Toronoto. The restaurant has an upscale decor and plenty of ambiance. The staff is attentive, friendly and very professional. Every single dish we had that evening was unique, eclectic and satisfying. I am looking forward to the day we go back!

Always a fan favourite, Globe Bistro can be credited with popularizing the locovore movement in Toronto. Since it opened its doors, the mission has been to provide Toronto with local and fresh cuisine. During Winterlicious you can count this menu to top your list. There are also stellar vegetarian options as well!
