Norfolk General Hospital

Had ER visit for evaluation of a fall at home. I am a retired nurse as of this year. I arrived at 0830 and lasted there in ER for near on 13 hours to 14 hours with poor service. I realized what I needed but the ward station was overheard to ask where this lady's chart is? The head nurse came by at 153o to offer an apology for the long wait to see a doctor as they misplaced my chart. No orders as no chart for a doctor to write. At about 2030 as younger doctor talked to me informing me,

Spent 6 days & nights in deplorably, unsanitary conditions. Got very little sleep as ward room mate hummed loudly all night long. I was put in a room with 2 men & one humming elderly woman. Staff unprofessional & needed training. Loud voices & noises all night long. Toilet filthy & shared by all patients. 2 men entered my room at 4:30 a.m. searching for someone. They didn’t identify themselves or use flashlights. I had no idea who they were. I was traumatized by my experience & filed a complain.

Went in for x-rays for broken thumb. was quick and painless. Doctors here are friendly and professional. 2 thumbs up...well 1 cause only 1 works right now ;)

This is worst experience I have ever had! Got to the hospital, only person eating to see emerg nurse, sitting a red chair, 1/2hr, energ nurse finally asks what is wrong! Sat 2 hours in a waiting room of 4 other people. Then called to go to another waiting room with 3 other people and no one has moved. I was given a concussion protocol when we needed stitches to close a gash inside a lip! 90% of beds are empty!!! I would have been better off to drive home 1 1/2 and go to hospital there!

ER long waits

In ER you will be waiting 4+ hours. Are they understaffed or something? The Triage nurse isn't even in the room half the time and when a critical condition patient come in there's no one there to help in an actual emergency?!

Treatment in Emergency Satisfactory. Treatment in ICU good until deciding two days after Heart Attack to move patient to third for without consulting family or considering psychology impact. Room on third floor was deplorable, so much so that my husband ended up signing himself out rather than suffer the conditions he was put under. Whatever happened to the Step Down unit which would have solved this problem?

Never out under 4 hours. Seems so slow and unorganized.
