Positive: Quality food, fair-sized portions, nice atmosphere. Good stuff aside, we experienced very awkward service from our waiter. He wasn't rude, just very careless when it comes to properly attending to patrons. He took at least 15-20 mins. to attend to us (there were two other small tables of people), never offered us anything to drink, and never brought us any glasses or water. We noticed this to be a trend amongst other diners. This wasn't corrected even when our food was brought, and we were quite thirsty... Our waiter also appeared to have a hard time understanding orders, even when they are properly pronounced in Spanish (e.g. 'pollo' had to be repeated a few times, until he said "oh 'pollo'" in the same manner that we did). As for the food, quite tasty. I would've enjoyed it more if it didn't take 45 minutes to arrive after ordering. I wouldn't suggest it's amazing authentic mexican food, but it's good for what it is. I may give this place a try again. Still undecided on that. Good ambiance, quality food. They just need to work on their speed & service. And please, offer your diners a drink!
I haven't been there in a while and I remembered why. In the past I've been pleased with their guacamole, but even that was subpar for me tonight. I ordered a lime daquiri, Sopa Azteca and the Tacos con Carne. The lime daquiri was good. I'll give it 8/10. The Sopa Azteca had a nice flavour but it was too salty for me. Had it been less salty I would have enjoyed it more. The Tacos con Carne were VERY DISAPPOINTING. As I remembered upon receiving my dish, for $8.50 it got three little tortillas wrapped around some 'marinated beef' with a side of refrieds and a side of guacamole. The beef was so tough. Not worth eating. I added the beans to the bowl we ordered earlier for our daughter (to bring home) and I ate the guacamole. I only had one bite of the tacos. When the waitress came to take our plates, she asked if I was done. I said yes, because the beef was too tough. She didn't say anything and cleared our plates. When the bill came, we were charged full price for the tacos I didn't eat. The one positive point is that they didn't argue when I said I would only pay half (since I did eat the guacamole and took the beans home). My only argument here is that they should have taken it right off the bill without my prompting. My husband had another beef dish (Tampiquena) and his beef was also tough. Friends had the chicken fajitas and the chicken mole (?). They enjoyed their dishes. Other friends had pork dishes and one enjoyed their dish while the other thought it was tough. All in all, I feel that the food could have been better. For the price, the value was certainly not there.
I knew what I was in for, but I ordered any way. I had not ordered in about a year. I was amused to see that placing a delivery order was the same as it was a year ago, and that is the staff are not sure if they have delivery or not. I'm not sure why that it is the case. But, the food showed up, so they did have delivery today. 2 burrito entrees is what I ordered -- one chicken, one beef. These arrived individually wrapped and the rest of the 2 meals was combined into one take out container, which we then had to split. This was ok, as the 2nd person didn't want was in the container. The burritos and guacamole are good. The refried beans ... adequate. The supposed small salad consists of nothing but shredded ice berg lettuce with a few specks of tomato and onion. Oh, and there were 6 small nacho chips. My issue is that this was not worth $35.10. I forget the exact price I was quoted when I placed the order on the phone, but it was around $25 plus tax. So, delivery was nearly $10.00. I do sometimes miss living in a big city where one can find excellent quality Mexican food at a very reasonable price. But, it isn't just Mexican ... Peterborough has a serious lack of high quality, reasonably priced take-out or delivery options that aren't pizza, wings or Chinese.
Hearty, filling, well cooked, super service, the best margaritas in the city. Absolutely love their guacamole and tortilla chips. Their vegetarian burritos with shredded cactus are to live for. Love eating here.
Absolutely fantastic! I will definitely be returning here. Based on the reviews on restarantica, I stopped here for lunch while in Peterborough today. The fresh salsa and guacamole were fantastic. And I'm not even that much of a fan of guacamole. The chicken quesadillas were great as well. Tried the mango juice on the recommendation of the server and was very pleased with it. Will definitely be returning here and taking others with me.
La Hacienda is one of my favorite retreats in Peterborough for an authentic mexican meal! I came by myself, and was promptly directed to the front window nook, and ate my great moyettes with a mango juice. It was a great lunch, and I recommend that place to all my friends. Although some might not expect the flavours authentic mexican typically offers, and thus might rate this restaurant poorly, I know what true Mexican tastes like and La Hacienda is it! You won't want to miss out on this restaurant in the summer when they pull out their patio...AMAZING...
The food tasted good. The size of the portions were respective of their prices. The presentation was wonderful. The freshness of the greens was good, but the rice and beans tasted a bit dry. The mango juice was refreshing. The atmosphere complimented the food and the music was great. We got a free side dish of chips and dip, but I didn't like the chips. The total came to $28 with what we ordered below.
It was so good! We loved it. The priced are amazing for the quality, presentation and amount of food that we ate. We will be back. The people that work there are so friendly!
We visited La hacienda restaurant and although it was extreemly busy that day the atmosphere, service and food was amazing!!! The waitress was friendly and quick. The guacamole was the best we've ever had and the presentation of the dishes matches the amazing taste! The decorating inside is truely authentic and the music adds to the atmosphere which is comfortable and welcoming. The chefs even came out to greet the customers and made it a very light and friendly environment. Truely feels like mexico! Definatly going back
This place was a real gem to find. They have introduced a new brunch menu with many delicious dishes. I do recomend to give saturday brucnh a try. It is not as a busy during peak hours so the service is distinctly better. Great Atmosphere! Friendly and Accomadating Staff! Unforgettable Food!
Mixed feelings, read the great reviews and it was recommended by a friend so got there with great expectations. Place was nicely decorated. Service was very slow though the waitress was very friendly. The Sopa Azteca is not really Sopa Azteca, very nicely presented and not bad taste but more a chicken broth with tortillas than the real thing. Tacos al pastor were tasty but missed the chopped onion and then again not quite the real thing. The aguas frescas (fresh fruit-made water) were not really fresh but rather a concentrate or a commercial tamarind/guava juice. Might go back but I am still looking for a place with real Mexican food. The thing I was hoping to find: Mexican Breakfasts (Barbacoa, Divorced eggs, pozole, sweet bread, hot chocolate, tamales, enfrijoladas...hey wait, that might be the start of something here!)
Loved it, felt like I was on vacation in mexico. Authentic food, great service, decent prices! Will return!
Great atmosphere and very satisfying dishes. The soup was amazing, possibly the best soup we've ever had. Highly recommended!
Service was good, but sometimes hard to find someone to order exta drinks. The guacamole was very good. I would not call it guacamole but more of a homemade salsa.
Service was a bit slow but friendly on the side patio. Food was very good and presented nicely. Fajita shells were too small.
Have been there for many lunches and dinners and will continue to go back. I love it. Not too spicy unless you ask for it and very friendly and quick service. I love the Enchiladas Verde and Guacamole. YUM! My mouth is watering as I type this.
My Boyfriend and I love this place. We have never had a bad meal their. Favorite place to eat in PTBO.
The food was wonderful, as it always is every time I visit. Even if you're not a fan of Mexican food, it is worth a taste, as it is so well made.
Inspired food lovingly prepared. Fresh ingredients. Cheerful service. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending La Hacienda.
Everytime I go I am made to feel like I am a special customer by the staff. It is also small enough that returning customers are remembered. Both chefs are mexican and have a passion for food that goes beyond their work.
