I really liked this place. overall it was spectacular. breakfast was fresh and tasty. I then went on to buy some of the finest breads I've ever had. the service was a bit vacant , but very professional.
The gnocchi was out of this world! The coffee is also exceptional, not to mention the croissants. Have not had good croissants like this since visinting Paris. The jams are really tasty, would suggest the ginger rhubarb and blackberry strawberry. The place is crowded but the turnover is pretty quick and well worth the wait. Get there early to beat the rush.
This place is expensive for brunch. We had to wait a long time for our coffes and the bill. The portions could be bigger and my eggs were really overcooked.
I'm not one to give out perfect 10 scores, but Benny's deserves it. I've been on several occasions, and have always been on a cloud for hours after leaving. Before the kitchen opens, you can have several European coffee options and a great selection of pastries made in the adjacent French Baker bakery. Once the kitchen opens, the specials have been some of the best food that I have ever had. To top it off, I've always had cordial and prompt service from a staff that seem to pride themselves on their work. There is a down side. Benny's Bistro is not cheap, and a complete brunch can easily go over $25, but it will be some of the best money you have ever spent.
Had to wait 30 minutes for a table; they don't take reservations.. Ordered french toast "stuffed" with brie and poached pears. In my opinion, "stuffed" is not the same as a sandwich. What I got was a sandwich. I was not too impressed with the size of the plate neither. The wait staff was not particulary attentive and we had to ask a few times.. Moreover, the waitress did not know the menu items and was unable to answer questions. Given the price (total bill: $55 for two), we don't plan to go back.

Primarily a lunch and brunch establishment, Benny’s Bistro’s is tucked behind The French Baker in the ByWard Market. Opened by the aforementioned baker, who came to Ottawa from Paris, the menu is modest but stupendously tasty, anchored by his famous bread. For lunch, there’s a daily sandwich or, for something carb-less, a kale salad. For brunch, why not pair your Confit Albacore Tuna with wine? Day-drinking is certainly possible here.

View this Smart ListNamed in honour of the owner’s beloved dachshund hound, Benny, this Bistro has crafted up a French answer to a North American tradition: gourmet brunch. Settle into the sophisticated yet relaxed bistro surrounded by blue, red and yellow walls and prepare yourself for some truly extravagant French toast. Stuffed with aged white cheddar and topped with a roasted apple compote, brown butter oat crumble and salted caramel, it’s like no other pain perdu in town.
