My party of four was seated after the bouncer ID'd all of us, requiring two pieces of ID. Asking for two pieces of government ID comes across as extravagant, unnecessary, and presumptuously suspicious of your clientele. Whatever. That wasn't enough to ruin the experience by any means. So we got seated afterwards. We were sitting for between 5-10 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge our presence. Finally, we were greeted by a rather unenthusiastic server. We requested drinks and menus and did not receive either for another 10 minutes. Two of us grabbed our own menus while waiting. Fast-forwarding--it is very difficult to get any service, let alone bad service. It is a chore to get what you want. You need to personally seek out the waitress and ask for drinks/food, and you get the impression that you're bothering her. Aside from the generally slow, and oft non-existant service, the server was simply unfriendly, ungracious, and uninformed. I asked what imported beers she had and her reaction read that my question was unreasonable. She didn't even know which beers were imported/domestic. Unacceptable for a server. Next is the food quality. Long story short: completely mediocre. Mozzarella sticks were fine, though they likely came from a frozen package. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich, and while it wasn't horrid, there was nothing about it that made me feel like my money was spent well. Huge thick bun with a thin chicken fillet smothered in Frank's Red Hot hardly qualifies as a satisfactory meal. Fries were unsalted and unseasoned. Straight from the freezer to the deep fryer. Simply boring. I wouldn't recommend this place for anything. Not for the food. Not for the drinks (they don't even have weekday specials; I went on a Wednesday night). Not for the (non-existant) friendly staff. Stay away.
I'd like to preface my review by saying that my expectations were not that high for this place. I went in without a recommendation and I wasn't expecting much more than the standard affair of pub food. Obviously I didn't come here looking for a five-star dining experience. However, these rather low expectations were somehow not even met. I will start with the service. My party of four was seated after the bouncer ID'd all of us, requiring two pieces of ID. Thankfully I had my healthcard on me, and I'll say that this wasn't the best start. Asking for two pieces of government ID comes across as extravagant, unnecessary, and presumptuously suspicious of your clientele. Whatever. That wasn't enough to ruin the experience by any means. Simply boring. I think I tipped between 3-4% of my bill, and even that may have been generous. Tips are earned, not automatically generated. If you put in no effort, you get no reward. The food quality was nowhere good enough to redeem the awful service. I wouldn't recommend this place for anything. Not for the food. Not for the drinks (they don't even have weekday specials; I went on a Wednesday night). Not for the (non-existant) friendly staff. They do have a few pool tables though. Maybe you could go for that, if nothing else.
Dirty place, run down. The staff are lousy. Same people all the time.unfriendly atmosphere.People tell you their problems, even if you don't know them. The prices are good though. I felt uncomfortable there, not too welcoming.
This is a college bar and like most people if you want to have a few beers and great wings this is the place to go. We ordered their TEAM COMBO special which included 20 wings, 4 potato jackets, 6 mozzarella sticks and fries plus a pitcher of draft beer. We were told about the HELLFIRE wing deal if you can eat a pound they present you with a free T-Shirt...next time for sure.
Have been here a few times over the years and was never overly impressed, the last time went in with a few guys from my Rugby team for a few beers and wings. It was more a case of I only went there because they where going there. Atmosphere: The place is worn down and tired. For starters the place still looks like an out-dated, tacky 1970's basement. Its also way too bright in there, you feel like your sitting in a tanning salon. The music was too low so it was eerily quiet. Not a good comfortable and welcoming bar atmosphere thats for sure. It was full of 19 year old college kids at the tables and scruffy, smelly 50 year old drunks by the bar. Neither groups seemed to mind the hideous decor and dirty washrooms. Even the bar area was dirty, unwiped tables etc. Definitely not a family place, there was broken glass outside and people smoking a joint by the patio. Food & Drink: Wings were middle of the road and are definitely not the best in town. They need to clean their taps or something because we had 3 different beers from tap on our table and they all tasted off. Dirty lines perhaps? Also a pitcher of Moosehead arrived luke warm. Service: Uninspired and insincere. The servers and bartenders must not be happy because not one of them was smiling. The dorky looking manager looked like he was 14 years old and you could tell he is one of those guys who thinks he's cool but clearly isn't at all. He certainly didn't seem to care our beer was warm or how we were doing. All he said to the server when we told him was 'get them something else then' and walked away without an apology or even speaking directly to us. Beers were empty for a bit and we had to ask for a refill. We didn't even see our server for a while and no one asked us how our food was. I kind of wish this place would close down and something better would open there because its had its day and hasn't improved at all over the years. They just don't seem to give a damn. Will definitely NOT go back.
I never tell the waitress that I am from Buffalo until after I have my wings on the table. I am staying in Oakville for 2 weeks for work and found this cool sports pub across from a local college. I asked for the hottest wings they have and the waitress said "HELLFIRE" I said "bring it on" she then asked if i was 100% sure because they do not offer a refund if i find them too hot. I laughed and we ordered a pitcher of cold beer and waited for our wings. I must admit, wow, they were hot but they had lots of flavor. They were probably the best hot wings I had ever had because they were so good. The best part was when i was finished the waitress said "here you go" and gave me a free T-shirt that said "i went to hell and back for these wings" i was so impressed. She said they don't give too many away because most people cant finish them. If you like hot wings, take it from a guy from Buffalo, order Hellfire and you will love them!
I started going here since it was across the street from my college. Prior to this, I had never had flavored chicken wings except for the ones you buy at a box in the supermarket. When I first came here, I was quite surprised. The wings were AMAZING. Large, crispy, and the sauces tasted excellent. In particular I am quite a huge fan of their hellfire wing sauce, the flavor is amazing and it's actually spicy and lame/fake spicy like most 'hot wings'. I also LOVE their fries. I had never had such large, crispy, and delicious french fries. As a result, when comparing to other wing places I tend to take into account the size of their wings, the flavors, and the fries. I should mention for the most part the staff is great. Two great waitresses to be named are Alex and Chloe. They are both amazing at their job, and very prompt. That said, I have had some experiences where some small items are forgotten in my takeout. Also, there is one waitress (with a mean looking face) who is dreaded. She has ruined my order (or companies order) on various occasions.\ So overall, this place is THE place for wings and fries. Service is usually great, with some exceptions.
I orded a medium rare baseball steak which took 30 minutes and was still rare. The vegetables that came with the steak were right from a bag of frozen mix. Everything on the menu is deep fried and ordered in pre made food.. No selections.. no healthy choice's.. poor food, everything else is good.. Never ever scene a resteraunt with a double doored stand up freezer on the line..
Although the food is good and the menu offers a varied selection of goodies, the service has been dismal for as many years as I have been heading back for more punishment. I am a 10+ year veteran of Monoghan's and go about once a month with friends and or family. For as long as I have attended, the service has always been well below par. You have to wait forever to get someone to serve you and if you want your bill, as well in advance. Trouble is, the staff seem to take care of the regulars (fair enough) but completely ignore the casual visitor. It has unfortunately never changed which is too bad since the atmosphere and the amenities are above average. So go for the food, but just order all your beers for the whole experience at once.
Ordered Fish and chips, It took them 20 minutes to tell us they were out of it.
We ordered wings on wing night and recieved wings which still had feathers attached. This was the last time I will ever visit this poorly managed restaurent. I live over the restaurent and I have seen and been a victem to consistantly bad service and food. Everything from over cooked steak to under cooked potatoes and burnt wings on many previous visits. The student waitress's and cheif's in Monaghans are clearly not interested in the customer.
We wanted a Place to watch the Leaf Game and Monaghans is the best place. Great Plasma screens, lots of people cheering the best wings and cold beer. Pool tables as well. Try and get a table up top facing the TV's you can't go wrong!
The staff is great...kudos to bella, heather and boo for having to deal with the annoying kids in there...plus all the other servers. Greg however is the worst manager ever!! just kidding :) You guys have made it a second home for me and papertowel. Thanks for the memories!!
The wings are 45 cents each on Monday nights after 6 pm. Since we ordered 60, it came around 32 dollars for the wings. They were excellent and the choice of sauces was new and appealing. I highly recommend Lemon Pepper, and their Honey Garlic was better than most. Also, Medium is interesting because it is sweet at first, and then spicy. Hot was the regular fare for hot. Also, we had a side of Hellfire sauce, which I ended up bringing home with me. I was the only one who tried a substantial amount, and it was the hottest thing I had ever put in my mouth. It was a more complex taste than the Medium, but similar (sweet at first but then spicy). I could feel at least 3 different kinds of spicy on my tongue, and after about a minute, my mouth felt like a furnace. Hellfire is not for the faint of heart (even I was yelling to my friends for water), but definitely worth a try. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to look at the menu, but I'm definitely going there again. Even if you can't get there on a Monday evening, the wings are definitely worth a try.
I have loved this restaurant for over 10 years now, I hope they continue to have excellent food and service for years to come - a must visit.
I love this little pub i have been goin here for years the service is always good the atmisfer is great and the pepole are even better. They always have a very diverce group of pepole all the time in there and the regulars are the best pepole you will ever meet.
We were looking for an authentic fish & chips restaurant when we dropped in here. What a great surprise! The haddock was firm and very tastey. The fries and salad were excellent also. Service was great as well.
