Not sure what the other people are complaining about. I've been going here for the past year and the fish has always been fresh and incredible. I highly recommend the smoked salmon and the beef tataki. My wife always orders the natto there as well. It's not on the menu, but if you ask for it, they'll make it for you. The curry here is more expensive and not worth the price, but if you're coming here for sushi, it's incredible!
Mikado is one of the few places in Toronto that continues to serve high quality sushi fish. I personally would rather pay more for authenticity and quality over quantity any day. While the decor could be upgraded the real experience comes from the deliciously fresh sushi!
I lived for years in Japan and my wife is Japanese. I've been appalled at the quality of most Chinese owned Japanese restaurants in Toronto. Some Korean owned ones do quite well. There are VERY few REAL Japanese restaurants in Toronto. MIKADO is the best. Walk into a sushi restaurant in any part of Japan and it's just like this place. The master is the ONLY one who makes the sushi, trained in Japan and who has worked for the most expensive sushi place in the city. You want real tempura, not the heavily battered garbage you get at most places? Mikado has the best. My favourite is the OMAKASE, or taking the full sushi dinner choice and letting the master choose what to include. The sushi is melt in your mouth delicious! Best to go on a Thursday through Saturday when the sushi fish has been freshly delivered. Having said that, their OLD fish is head and shoulders fresher than any other places NEW fish. If you want an authentic experience, awesome taste, and a reasonable price, go to Mikado.
This is supposed to be a better Japanese sushi restaurant but I think it is average. maybe there is an insider tip of what you should order but the food was average for me. the big problem is the dusty restaurant. Not very clean and very small bathroom. clean up and expand your facility please.
My compliments to the wait staff at Mikado. They genuinely care, while making sure they remain respectful and give you adequate space. The food is impressive and authentic. The chef knows his cuisine and is not messing around with fusion nonsense. having said that, the fish was not very fresh. It was merely adequate for some of the species. The restaurant has dedicated parking space and could use a neater decor. Not for those who like to eat 'sushi' (cough) at Chinese buffets.
This is the best sushi I've had outside of Tokyo. Chef Masuda is very talented and a great guy. This restaurant is proof that all you can eat sushi is a crime against Japanese food.
