The innkeeper where I was staying recommended the Buttermilk Cafe for lunch, and it was exactly what I was looking for - casual dining with good food and service. It was obviously a popular place - it was almost full when I arrived, and I took that as a good sign but wondered whether the service would be slow. I was pleasantly surprised - I didn't have to wait long, and my server was friendly and efficient. I had the California chicken wrap, which was tasty and moist without being soggy. I would definitely go there again - my kind of place!
Went for lunch. Good thing we reserved, really busy, service was fast & friendly. Even though they were quite busy we were not rushed. The food was great, The soup out of this world. Will go again. Perhap to try their breakfest.
My wife and I have been coming to the Buttermilk for some time. Its hard to find places like this with good ole home style cooking. Homemade bread and fresh food. Not something frozen out of a bag. For the amount of food and the quality I'd say the price is great. Service is great and cozy atmosphere. Been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All great food and would recommend to anyone looking for a nice outing. Be sure to try the mississippi mud pie. It's to die for!
Was very impressed. Busy place but the servers were able to keep up. I am happy to see that the food has improved, it was a little rough for a bit there but you can tell the kitchen is under new management..the food is excellent once again!
Went here on the reccomendation of a friend. The food was really nothing special especially when considering the price. Im fairly certain anyone capable of reading the directions on the side of a box of generic pancake mix could do jsut as well

We've been regular breakfast customers for years now and have noticed in the past year a serious decline in the food quality. It seems the portions are shrinking, bread isn't the same, homefries taste more like deep-fried potato, eggs taste processed and you can squeeze the grease and the processed cheese out of the omlettes - but the prices go up. $30 for two people to go for breakfast - the meal should be good - you shouldn't feel sick before you leave the table. Service is still friendly, but good service is no substitute for hard-to-swallow food. We'll have to think long and hard before returning.
there was a young bus girl working at the time :) she was very sweet and kind! she asked if we were enjoying our meal....very polite :)
Have lunched here about once a month for 3 years and only once have we needed to complain-tuna item cold in the middle. Otherwise food and service has always been excellent, most recent visit today Sep 18/08. Clientele mostly 50+,canned music not loud and reflects mature taste-don't update it,you will scare us away if you do!
We found the service attentive, atmosphere was relaxing, and I especially liked that all the food was made on the premises, even the toasted almond salad dressing!
They were not busy and service was painfully slow. The reasen was some big tables but the largest was 6 people and we were 5. They do a nice job with some of their food such as the breads but the service (including some morning meals there) is VERY slow. The end result is OK but I don't want to wait an hour for my dinner.
These are the best pancakes I have had anywhere in Ontario. When we go elsewhere I always compare the food to The Buttermilk, no other place has the same quality. The portions are large and filling.
Food was great, large portions, loved the orange juice and coffee. Place was busy but we were served quickly. Very clean place.
Wish we lived closer , so we could meet more often there, with our relatives from Kingston. This was our second visit. Staff all so welcoming friendly and helpful. Food outstanding in presentation and taste. Also excellent value. Free parking only a few steps from entrance. .
Stopped for breakfast before a meeting with a client, had only 20 mins to spare. Asked waitress if I could get food and get out in time - no problem! Eggs benedict with side of home fries and toast with hot tea - was excellent quality, served unbelievably quickly, and my bill was brought promptly. Went to meeting full, satisfied, and ON TIME! :) Will take clients there in future.
I wasn't too hungry, so I simply ordered the caesar salad, which was a pleasant surprise. Their homemade dressing was so rich and delicious! Then, I had a piece of carrot cake for dessert, which was also very rich and made me want to come back for more! Also, the waitresses were all very kind.
I had the chicken peach almondine and it was super fantastic. The buttermilk pie was even more delightful. I have been back since for coffee and dessert and the cream brule was good too. The staff were helpful in picking a dish that I might enjoy and very friendly as well. The food tasted fresh and the environment was spectacular for such value.
Enjoyed a quick lunch of soup and sandwich. Excellent food, fast excellent service.
ver expensive for the size of portions. french toast and eggs were cold not good when there is only two tables in the place
