This place USED to be fantastic, but something has happened over the years... the price kept going up (and up and UP) and the taste of the donair meat and the sauce just took a dive. Especially the meat... it used to be very tasty, very unique with a lovely salty hit that juxtaposed well with the sweet sauce. Now the meat tastes bland and without flavour, and the sauce likewise is tame. It really breaks my heart, I've been going to this place since it was over beside the old CHAPS restaurant. :(
Ive been eating these donairs since a small child. They are by far the best donairs anywhere... the people are friendly, family run and excellent. Once you get one you will always return. We love Sammys
The donair sauce used to be delicious Now its very bland no sweet taste I complained but they we make it the same I hate it it when changes are made probably to try to cut cost I didnt mind paying the price for something i enjoy The sweetbsauce made me want to eat more donairs My taste buds are the same too bad i guess they dont care Any one else had the same experiance
I just paid $8.50 + TAX (paid cash!?) for a TINY kids' size donner kebab. I know Donners (not DonAirs) very well. I have tasted hundreds of donners in Germany where they are more common. This does not compare to any of them. Worst donners ever! No tatziki sauce, no lamb meat, no sliced vegetables but traces of some. TRY it once and ask for your money back because these guys CAN'T make donners!

Sorry you seem to have had a bad experience. Unfortunately you are confused between donair and gyros. Very different, the donair has no lamb and does not use tzatziki. The gyro does. Thanks for your input!
Yes, these donairs are the best we have ever had. My husband and I crave them all the time. Like the sign says, they are addictive. With that said, I saw a post, and someone mentioned that they have had better. Where would we find better in the Burlington area?
Had a donair for old times sakes....used to have them regularly when Sammy's first opened some thirty years ago on Fairview St.. They used to be big juicy and tasty...now they are simply tiny, way overpriced and lousy, but back to my review of todays donair: Bitter disappointment. To make a long story short the original donair used to be twice the size and on a scale of 1-10 the original being ten this sad excuse was a tasteless 2 ( to be charitable) Athmosphere? None excistant. Service? As if the no personality people behind the counter even know what service is. Hey, I'm a customer have some respect since I pay your wages...all you see are sullen expressions and downright disrespect in their eyes as if they have to push themselves serve you and customers a necessary evil.. Well sorry to bother you and if you hate customers that much get out! I will NEVER set foot in your store again!
Their donairs are really the best around, the sweet sauce that comes with the donair is what makes it so awesome. I recommend the donairs to everyone I know and they all love it too.
Well, having spent my university years ( 82 -86) in Halifax, I kinda KNOW Donairs. ( 4 in the morning apres Cabbagetown, Mist Moon, palace). Moved to Southern Ontario ( Oakville) 10 years ago, and mourned the loss of donairs.... UNTIL, I found SAMMI's last year....OMG....as authentic as you will find anywhere outside of Halifax....YUMMMMMM!
First I want to say that I was born and raised in Nova Scotia and this is NOT a Nova Scotia Donair!! However.....it is not too bad. The sauce was alright but something was missing. It just didn't taste the same....but it was close. The meat was on a spit as it should be but was missing a few spices. It was sort of plain. No kick. The service was very good and the people were friendly. The place is a Lebanese place so I was a bit disappointed it wasn't a better donair. The baklava was very dry. Sitting around for too long I guess. Over all if you are dying for a donair then you can get one here but don't expect it to be authentic. I will visit again since it wasn't too bad and as close to a real donair as I've found so far in Ontario.
The donair was OK, but not as good as I had hoped. The size of the donair was small for the price. If you have a craving for a donair then this will satisfy it but just.
I wanted to try something different for lunch and decided to venture to Sammy's. It was not that bad - I guess I was expecting an outstanding donair. For $10 combo, the meal was descent. There is lots of sauce on the donair which made it for a potentially messy lunch. The salad was moderately dressed in dressing though I like a very lightly dressed salad. They do have a different flavour from other Donairs/Shawarama places. Check the place for yourself and post your review.
donairs were not even good i threw mine out...i told them i was not satisfied and they did not care...............i will never go there again!!!!
These are the best Donair's in Ontario, I have tried almost all available in Toronto and they DO NOT match Sammy's! Don't waste yer time finding an East Coast donair in Toronto, just drive to Burlington!
i hate it so much i would never come back there was hair in my donair and the bald guy with the black beard give me problems
Nice place, good food. Not what I pictured, this was more a typical fast food joint then I imagined. For all the talk it is highly comparable to a Greek style Gyros with a sweeter sauce then the Gyros style tzatziki. The service was fine, fast, but not much in the good mood dept. Fine place to eat if your in the area & in a hurry. Remember, bring a spare T-Shirt or a towel, because they sure love to get sloppy.
well first things first the food is nasty!!!!if the food was good it wouldnt matter so much about the rude employees...was not satisfied with my meal asked for my money back the refused me n told me there was nothing wrong with it!!THEY ARE NOT REAL DONAIRS!!!!!dont be fooled!!!
I was told about Sammy's from some friends at work. They constantly talk about donairs. I have tried them and ever since I have been hooked on them. Their staff is friendly and quick and the food is incredible. Keep up the good work
This is a fast-food type of restaurant. We had beef donair with Tahini sauce this time as we were not too crazy about the sweet sauce that we tried before. The donair tasted million times better with Tahini sauce and I like the fact that they put a lot of meat in the food. We would definitely go back there again.
it was excelent and so dilicious. their staff are so sweet and helpfull and so respectfull. and im hoping to go back to that restaurant soon again!
I won't eat a donair anywhere else but save the experience for once a year when I'm in the city - it's that good!
