LOVE THE FOOD AND THE SERVICE,BEEN GOING THERE FOR YEARS AND WILL FOR MANY MORE.THE OWNERS AND STAFF ARE GREAT AND THE ATMOSPHERE IA AWSOME
I came home from college and thought I'd go back to the Portland Pub, my mom took me there for steak when I was younger and it was kind of sentimental for me. Sadly, the food is not as good as I remember... However, the rest of the restaurant is EXACTLY as I remember it being... 15 years ago. The place is dark and dirty, hasn't been updated in a very long time. The service was excellent however. Very friendly.
We booked our annual get-together for a large group. It was my suggestion to use the Portland Pub, which turned out to be a huge mistake. We were not told of any events going on there that night when we booked for about 15-20 individuals. When you go to a pub, you do expect some music/noise, but nothing prepared us for what we would endure. There was a charity auction going on right behind us on the 'other side' of the pub. The auctioneer was using a microphone turned up full blast and yelling into it simultaneously. We were right near speakers and could not even hear the person next to us. We get together and meet once a year so this was extremely disappointing. When we asked the waitress if he could maybe 'not' use the microphone as it was extremely abrasive and we couldn't even catch up on what we'd all been up to at all - it was even hurting our ears, it was THAT loud - her snottily-delivered response was, "Well they're here every week and I'm not doing anything. They can do what they want." No offer of anything other than that. There were even some sort of barriers there they could've closed to block off some of the noise between the two sections of the pub and she refused to do that as well. Nice. The kindness continued after our visit - we all left much earlier than we had planned and the night was pretty much a wash. I felt badly because I had mentioned the pub as a good central location for us, etc and the food was usually decent, etc., so I wrote a letter to the manager to let him/her know about our experience. To this day (at least 6 months later), I have not received a response from this place of business. So the message we got was: You group of teachers and your business mean nothing to us. I refuse to go back to the pub ever - this is not how you conduct business.
