On the fringes of Gastown at Hastings and Carrall lies the Bitter Tasting Room, another Sean Heather production, this time focussing on beer from a variety of breweries, both local, American and from abroad. Their draught list is an eclectic mix featuring 13 rotating taps, half of which are always BC craft beers. Their bottles run the gamut from Belgians to bitters and their Scotch egg — a perfect beer accompaniment — is a must-try.
Located on West Hastings Street, Bitter Tasting Room offers a wide selection of locally made and international craft beers. Ordering a tasting flight is encouraged for guests looking to discover something new, or there are beer-based cocktails for the more adventurous drinkers out there. Pretzels, deviled eggs, and chili dogs round off an eclectic food menu.
With a craft beer focus, as well as a well-rounded and interesting list of bottles, you can bet that the Bitter Tasting Room is experimenting with beer cocktails. On their list, the very popular summertime favourite, the Radler Breeze. Highlighting East Van Vodka, the refreshing drink is topped off with Aperol, lemon and cranberry juice and the hit beer of summer 2014, Steigl’s grapefruit radler. They also mix up a mean Shandy as well as another pilsner/vodka treat spiked with cassis, lime and orange.
