There aren't any other bags like them out there. Each of the functional and artistic creations from Palmer and Sons is hand crafted from saddle leather and held together with rivets. No one else makes leather bags in this style and that's just how Nik Palmer, the founder and owner, likes it.
For his whole life, Nik has been into making stuff; Palmer and Sons is just the most recent chapter. Previously, he worked as a chef and a computer programmer. Then back in 2006, when Nik was dreaming up the concept for Palmer and Sons, he decided that he didn't want to sit at a machine all day and sew bags, so he opted for rivets instead. He also decided on the unique use of thick saddle leather, which shapes into bags, belts and simple wrist cuffs.
“It meant that I had to construct the bags in a different manner, this tetra pack type of style, where the leather folds up. It drove the overall aesthetic of the bag and also forced the functionality in some ways. If you design and have no constraints, you tend to wander off into la-la land,” explains Nik.
Palmer and Sons' designs also incorporate metal not usually found in traditional leather work, like stainless steel shackles and panic clasps from riding stirrups. This makes for a unique combination aesthetic and functionality.
