Step inside Velvet Café and be greeted by the aroma of Salt Spring Coffee, freshly baked muffins, and a tempting sandwich selection. “We make everything from scratch, for people on the go,” says co-owner and chef Adam Cook. “Even if people come in here just to pick up their breakfast and coffee, we put a lot of effort into providing customers with the healthiest and best food to put in their bodies.”
Velvet Café serves coffee, sandwiches, wraps, bagels, soups, salads, muffins, croissants and other baked goods. Every day the café features a special and soup. “The favourite one among customers is our Elk Salami Sandwich, which comes with horseradish aioli, Dijon mustard, aged cheddar and mixed greens,” says Adam. Not game for elk? No worries – the café offers a range of options for all tastes. They even have vegan specials on Thursdays.
Co-owner Cassy Jurome brews the coffee and takes care of the front-end at the café, much to the delight of coffee-loving customers. “Customers say we have the best white mocha in the city,” she says. “We use organic milk, which not a lot of coffee shops do.”
