After immersing himself into Paris’ traditional coffee culture, Huy Kha began dreaming of someday opening a coffee shop of his own. When the company he worked for was sold in 2016, Huy took the opportunity to move away from the oil and gas industry and start looking into the possibility of making his dream a reality. Just a year and a half later in October 2017, Société Coffee Lounge opened its doors.
“Calgary already has a lot of coffee shops – the market really is pretty saturated,” Huy says. “We wanted to come up with a concept that would set us apart from everyone else and we realized that there are a lot of great roasters from outside of Calgary that people here haven’t seen before, that could really bring something new to the Calgary market.”
