Located a few blocks east of the confluence of the Elbow and Bow rivers, Art of Health in the community of Inglewood offers a meeting of eastern and western traditions. Its yoga studio and holistic healing services are aligned to improve your mind, body and soul. “We have yoga classes, meditation classes, massage therapy, acupuncture and a Tibetan medicine doctor who practices here,” says co-owner Kari Wig. Joannie Kwok, co-owner and Chinese herbalist, also creates the facility’s customized herbal teas.
Art of Health offers eastern health treatments while removing language barriers. “I learned Chinese medicine as an apprentice to a mentor in the U.S. for 13 years," says Kwok, explaining that she has learned eastern healing but her first language is English. The team’s traditional Tibetan healer is also in high demand. Wig says, "Kunga, our Tibetan medicine man, is the only one practicing in Canada. He is currently living in Edmonton and comes to Calgary for only about four days a month and is very popular.”
Both men and women come to Art of Health to improve their wellbeing. While most of the facility’s clientele are between 30 and 50 years of age, plans are underway to expand services for other age groups. "We want to add programming for young families, pre and post-natal care and for kids," says Wig.
