Instead of being interrupted on Sundays and during dinner time throughout the week, Clayton Green’s grandparents decided to move their rock and lapidary business into a public location. “We opened the store in 1958,” Clayton says. “My grandfather used to be a carpenter and cabinet maker, but he was injured during the war and couldn’t continue with his business.”
That’s when Grandfather Green used his other hobby of collecting fossils and rocks to start Green’s Rock & Lapidary Ltd. “Lapidary is the art of cutting and polishing stone,” Clayton says. “We are a full-service lapidary for beginners and experts alike. We carry everything from equipment to equipment parts, raw materials to finished products like hand-carved quartz skulls.”
Clayton grew up with a love of lapidary and rocks fostered by visits to his grandparents' store, which first started in the basement of their home. “My grandfather's love of fossils got us started in this industry,” notes Clayton.
Whether you’re a hobbyist, hardcore collector or just looking for a one-of-a-kind gift, Green’s will have it. The large showroom aisles feature a wide variety of stones from agate, amber and quartz to meteorites, fossils and carvings. A third generation, family-run shop, these folks know their rocks and gems. They also supply sculptors with rocks such as alabaster, soapstone and wonderstone.
