Making The Casbah Restaurant the oasis it is today was no easy task. Owner Rani Drissi spent over seven years collecting the right furniture and looking for the right space. All the pieces of the puzzle came together when he found a place on 11th Avenue Southwest that would make the perfect escape from the world outside. Living up to its name, which means “palace” in Arabic, it’s easy to forget you’re still in Calgary while sipping mint tea in the Moroccan restaurant.

Zero stars. Booked my brithday here. The waiter (probably the manger also) was so rude!!! Wanted to charge us extra money because we had a big group of people. Which was odd since the place was very slow for a saturday. Don't go here. My birthday was ruined due to this arrogant waiter!!!! I'm so sad ? and feel so bad for my friends ???
If you plan to visit make sure you have a reservation on weekends! I had a reservation was still made to wait for a table over 1 hour! I was set on trying this place out so I stayed and waited. The atmosphere is wonderful. You feel you've been transported into Morroco. Its very well decorative. There are curtains to sort of close off areas where you sit so you have privacy..very romantic place. The food was wonderful. It took some time to get service and noticed by the server to order. On saturday nights I guess they have a belly dancer that comes around very entertaining to watch. Overall experience was nice and I now like Morrocan food!

Take a trip to Morocco without leaving downtown at Casbah Restaurant. The romantic dining room complements the authentic menu that showcases traditional Moroccan flavours. Almost everything is vegetarian or vegan! Couscous and rice dishes are the most popular, including chermoula, khoudra and sahara – all different mixtures of vegetables and chick peas combined with varying spices.

Though there’s plenty of meat and seafood on the menu here, its meat-free dishes are many. These include couscous Sahara prepared with caramelized onions, figs and pecans, khoudra tajine prepared with mixed veggies, chick peas and olives in saffron reduction as well as dinjal tajine, a stewed root vegetable dish simmered in eggplant reduction.
